To be honest, this is well known and not new.
Such things have been going on for some time sadly.

    7 minutes fifty seconds in
    todays rte lunchtime news,
catholics living in fear in northern Ireland....of catholics
when they join the police service of Northern Ireland

    http://www.rte.ie/podcasts/2010/pc/pod-v-17101014m49sthisweekpt2.mp3

    Ambiguous and sensationalist thread title.

Catholics who join the police force fear the actions of less that 1% of the catholic population who are actually deluded enough to threaten their lives or take violent action.

Some people are so narrow minded or brainwashed into thinking that things can't improve their situation.

And that suits some other people just perfectly.

small portion yes, but still causing trouble and trying to undo progress,

as report mentions: would be helpful to hear gaa make strong statement against the rira cira

 Why has the GAA, a sporting organisation, got to say anything at all? That is pretty stupid. Do the GAA have to make a strong statement against criminal gangs in Limerick or Dublin now too? Would you like Bewleys or Paddy Power to make a statement condemning the rira cira too?

What a silly thing to say. What has the GAA got to do with RIRA/CIRA? Should the English cricket association make a strong statement against the British armys involvement in bloody sunday?

The GAA has historically been tied to Irish nationalism. They name football stadiums after republicans. There's a GAA club named after INLA hunger striker Kevin Lynch.

Many people from the nationalist community are involved with the GAA, GAA managers are community leaders.

Though his suggestion is invalid for a different reason. Many GAA officials/coaches have spoken out against dissidents in the media and also do so at a local level.

The GAA has always been a major group in Irish nationalism and is plays a heavy role in the lives of many Nationalists / Republicans.

The criminal gangs in Dublin don't go around representing "the Catholic minority" while trying to reunite the island of Ireland. No, they just kill people and sell drugs.

I don't think the GAA condemning it will have any effect, but use your head.

why would the gaa condemn any one? they're a sporting org not a political party. there's people playing gaa from all shades and political view points.
the gaa has no place to condemn the rira or cira when it hasnt condemned the old, official, provo ira or any other ira you can name. sure there's gaa clubs named after some hunger strikers!
