Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

There is a culture of Markets in my area. There are a lot of different types. I am starting to do a bit of a documentary set. These are the start.

    C&C welcome.

Photos are cool, but you're getting lots of weird distortion. Is this purposely done? I see you shot some at 10mm for the wide angle, but some of the heads look odd. Most obviously the woman in # 4.

I like the first one, looks really natural, un-forced smiles. looks like they're genuinely having fun.

The first is an absolute belter of an image. Love it. Something strange going on in it - not quite fish eye but some odd perspectives. Eitherways I like it. #2 is quite nice also in that there is a story in there being told through the visuals. I've no idea what the guy is squeezing out of that cane like plant but it looks em., mind altering :) Thereafter there is quite a bit of people standing around in the market which does represent the moment of the market being shot but for me the interaction piece is generally missing - the interaction with customers, the interaction of the seller with the merchandise, the isolation of detail (for example the sellers hands preparing the stock, etc.). Love the first two though.

This is just a start and I want to keep adding to this body of work. The first two are at the Channon Market which is quite busy & funky. They are squeezing the joice out of Sugar Cane, this gets mixed with some Ginger Juice and some Ice and is a delicious drink.

The last few are from the Farmers Markets which have a completely different vibe. Lots of standing around waiting for a sale on a wet day. Hence there is that stand off feel and it's not connected. I think these are all taken with the Sigma 10-20 which means you have to get up close and interact.

Only got as far as this reply but 100% on the money is our Cagey. Distortion is the reason why I got rid of my 17-40L

Yeah nice set but that distortion is weird. Gets kinda sea-sick-inducing the more you look at it.

I like #1, really conveys a sense of friendly community - but the distortion is really severe & detracts from the picture .

On the other hand, #4, by God you have a formidable woman on your hands there! The distortion accentuates her strict/disapproving features. and I think the effect is quite dramatic. I could easily imagine that 2 seconds after this shot was taken, she was after you with a baseball bat clamped in her meaty fists! ( B&W conversion, maybe, to bring out the beast a bit more?)

    Well done,

I love my 16-35, but not really when shooting people, there's too much distortion.

As said above, careful with the distortion. If you use the lens, keep the people and especially faces close to the middle. Or just put on your 35 back. Lens, not lover... ;)

That distortion is crazy! Is it just caused by the lens used? The guy in #3 looks like a cardboard cut out.

I did a band shoot a few months back, I had the 50mm with me but we were in a tight spot so I switched to a kit lens, got similar distortion in some of the images.

    18mm:

There was 5 members of the group and the 2 that stood to the outside turned out looking a bit lob-sided. Strangely it suited the shot, but it doesn't always work that way. And not surprisingly the band ended up using one that didn't have that effect:

    26mm, distortion sorted.

An ultra wide is going to do this in tight areas no matter what really. Probably best to back up a bit and use the bit of zoom it has for less distortion.
