Galway is set for a massive jobs boost in the coming months, with a US-based company ‘eyeing up’ the city as a potential location for a new European call centre with up to 800 workers, the Sentinel has learned.

The company – which is involved in internet sales – is actively assessing Galway as a potential location for the call centre, and it is expected a final decision will be made in the coming months.
The news could mean a massive employment boost for the city, where the most recent figures show there are 13,500 people on the Live Register.

The Parkmore Industrial Estate off the Tuam Road is seen as the only suitable location in Galway for such a business, because of a shortage in buildings specifically designed to accommodate large-scale companies.

    On the sentinel today.
Is this just a rehash of the EA annoncement so that Crowe can get i ugly face in the paper or is it something else. They seem to only talk to estate agents and no one else.
Is it a cynical attempt by Crowe, who is an Estate agent btw, to drum up business.
The article doesnt mention who the MNC is!!

Electronic Arts/bioware are already recruiting, albeit senior positions, so i hope this news is some other company!
If it isnt then **** you Crowe!!!

its only "eyeing" up the place - window shopping in other words. Don't worry, they will probably head off to india along with all the other call centres etc. once they find out the price of basing it in Ireland. Its just a ploy. Dont' believe a word out of their mouths.

There are already call/support centers here but not on that scale.

Cost isn't everything in business (thought it is of course important)

In the tribune today, talking about that company again plus several other foreign companies "looking" at Galway as potential spot for investment in the next year. Please God some of it happens, we really need it.

Anyone who's been watching the job ad in detail lately knows that there is another corporate that's been recruiting recently. From the type and range of jobs, I'd say they're new to Ireland, and probably not a call centre.

Back on the topic of the 800-seat call centre, how many of these jobs will need a 2nd (or more) European language - ie one that the lads in India don't speak?

Has fluency in one been added to the requirements of IT qualifications in local tertiary institutions yet?
