Kindle DX PDF support?

    Hi all,
I'm looking into getting the "Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G, 9.7" Display, Graphite, 3G" model. I'd appreciate your thoughts on its ability to handle PDFs. I understand native PDF support has been added but I read (on Wikipedia, so I'm unsure as to its veracity) that "E-books of unencrypted .MOBI files, .TXT files, or .AZW formats can be transferred to the Kindle over a USB connection and read, but any other e-book formats are not supported."

Now a mate has a lot of magazines and ebooks in unencypted/unprotected/non-DRM/whatever format. Would I be able to transfer said files to this Kindle via USB?

    cheers,
    audere

Hi, I don't have one myself but I think that simply means files like .epub and .lit aren't directly supported.
I'm not sure that you can do a simple 'drag and drop' or copy via a file explorer, I think you may have to sync using their software. However, since the files are non-drm you should be fine.

For files which aren't directly supported, Calibre can convert (and also sync) http://calibre-ebook.com

I've been waiting years for a decent ebook reader with good pdf support. I'd like the larger screen of the Kindle but I've been very close to going with the Sony Prs650.

However, I'm gonna wait a few more weeks for the PocketBook Pro 900 series to be released and see what the reviews are like http://www.pocketgoods.de/ If it's anyway decent I'll be pulling the trigger.

Btw, http://www.mobileread.com/forums/ are brill for all info on ebooks.

When you plug your Kindle into your PC, it acts like a storage device so you can just drag and drop your files over. You won't need to convert pdfs, .mobi or text files but you will have to convert .lit and .epub. Calibre is a good program for converting them.
