Best way to setup these three : Laptop, PS3 and Ext. Drive

I've a Laptop, PS3 and two external drives.
They all work fine but when I want to watch something on the PS3 I've to plug in the USB from the Ext Drive into the PS3 after I detach it from the Laptop.
And when I want to update the content on the Ext. Drives I have to detach it from the USB and then attach it to the Laptop.

Not a big hassle you say but it kidn of annoys me.

Is there any device I could get that I can just plug my two external drives into and the PS3 and Laptop would be able to 'see' them.
The laptop does have a wireless card.

That looks an awful lot like the Eircom router I have. It doesn't have any USB in though.

what you need is a NAS storage, which will be connected from the router and can be accessed from laptop or PS3 using wireless or wired.

another solution is keep them connected to your PC and if you have windows vista or 7 then you can share your media via DLNA to your PS3, so nothing attached to the PS3 always to the PC

Problem with streaming from the ext hard drive through the laptop to the ps3 is that you will get latency issues.
NAS seems to be your best solution, but it will probably cost you more than the hassle its worth!!

i wouldn't use that one myself, when i mention NAS storage, like the one i own http://www.buffalo-technology.com/products/network-storage/linkstation/ls-xhl-linkstation-pro/

which has its own storage, no hard drive attached or anything

PS3 doesn't support NAS does it? Pick up a NAS with DLNA and it will stream media to the PS3 over a network.

Best solution for compatibility is to connect your USB drive to your laptop, and use a programe like TVersity to serve (and transcode) media to your PS3. Requires your laptop to be running when viewing media on your PS3, though.

it share data over DLNA, @NekkidBibleMan you don't need TVersity to serve, you can use Windows Media player with windows vista or 7 as a DLNA server too

We use a 8 tb NAS with a twonkey server setup on it - a lot of NAS's will come with this option just check before you buy it works really well for us and we have 4 xbox and 1 ps3 no problem streaming media yet.
