Is the turf bank actually a sand bank or a piece of reef?

A combination which varies through the year. It is quite stony in a fair few parts for much of the year.

Stone, reef and a turf peat type of substance.
Doug's my local beach and I thought everyone was joking about Turf.

If you go to Turf on a very low tide you will see a peat/ turf like substance. Hence the name so I have been told. It is way more plentiful on the south end of the end of the beach and it doesn't have to be a big tidal range to see it, just a normal low tide.

Full of tree trunks and schtuff like that.......
