Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

window cills

I have 7'' window cills in our new build. They are sitting on the outer leaf of the block work but the inner leaf is not level with the top of the cill, it is at least 4/5'' below this.

I have talked to the blocklayer and he said that instead of putting in blockwork to bring it up level, he said that as we are putting in the air tightness tape that I would be better off to shutter it off and to pour concrete in and bring it up level to the cill this way after the air tightness is in.

My question is, is this the best option? My engineer said that it all depends on where I want the inner timber window cill positioned.

in my opinion i would fill the space with concrete with an inch of xatherm insulation between the concrete and sill to break the coldbridge. i would fix a 9x2 on to the blockwork level with the bottom of the window frame. no packing for the window board should be needed if this is done properly and it will also seal off the cavity and make the house more airtight.
