    hi all. i'm thinking of venturing into the world of pistol shooting and i am looking for a .22 that is suitable for target shooting.

    I would recommend getting a look at what other people in your club have - what their experience/problems have been - how difficult is it to clean? Are magazines expensive? What ammo does it like/dislike? Etc.

    The most common .22 seen in competition would be the Smith & Wesson model 22a - next would be the Hammerli xsesse - I have seen some Pardini SP and Smith & Wesson model 417 also but they are at the other end of the price range

    in terms of competition success - the 22a would be miles ahead of anything else but that has more to do with who is shooting it than anyone else

    hence - get one you like to shoot - it's unlikely you'll ever be as good as it is - but you'll be shooting it for many years so be happy that you like it

    talk to some gun dealers to see what is for sale about the place and what prices they are asking so you have something to compare against
