Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Did this need a new thread?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,798 ✭✭✭speedboatchase

So did Rooney only want better wages or have they said they’re spending such and such in January? Did Rooney stand up to the Glazer’s better than anyone else has? Is the u-turn a win for Fergie or, if Rooney has got assurances, a win for player power?

Thank god, Sky SPORTS News should be watchable again in a few days.
It's been Rooney, Rooney, Rooney all week.

So what the feck was all that about then. Was it just to get an extra 50k a week?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

Can someone link me to a confirmation of how much he got?

I dont believe he would have got 220k a week from united tbh

Interesting situation for the next 12 months i feel

If the figure reported is true then how can United afford that?

    Don't be so naive.

Is this the exact same as the Gerrard situation? Did he get a big fat contract to stay and did he also do a u-turn so quickly?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

    Thats Fergies transfer budget halved!

    exactly what i was thinking.

if true, it's both the stupidest (it got the fans on his case big time), and best (he got the money he wanted), contract negotitation plan in the history of modern football.

I believe that he had a spat with fergue, albeit a small enough one. He was frustrated with his own performances and I'm sure his missus is still not talking to him at home. Step in Mr. Stretford who convinced him to set a little worry fire under the united management & board...cue everything exploding and Rooney getting worried. He gets a glimpse onto his future...finally talks to someone who offers him good advice and he makes the right decision. I don't doubt that he was prepared to go to man city and there was a deal on the table. But I think he felt that he was forced into it because of what his agent pushed him
To say. He probably expected a it'd backlash which in fairness he only partially got

I hope they say Wayne's issues were valid and we have assured him (AND THE FANS) that we have the resources to buy and attract big players to the club and will continue to be successful. Wayne has agreed a new 4 year deal.

Haha I only hoped for 4 years :D

Why all of a sudden does everyone think all United fans turned their back on Rooney? It was only a minority.

So Rooney got his way after all. All that for a few grand extra?? Classy!

I so wish I had opened that banner shop in Manchester. It would have only being surpassed by the effigy shop, with a cute sideline in USA flags, I currently have in Pakistan.

Well to be fair, expect a couple of days of faux rage before it's all forgot about and he can be taken off the mercenary list and proclaimed the bestest player ever.

Well, it was nice drama while it lasted.

I second this. I think he has behaved disgracefully this week. He will need to improve a hell of a lot if he is to justify his place in the starting eleven given his sh1te performances this season.

It was all just a ruse to get a bigger pay deal.

This is quite telling. If he doesn't start performing now I can see the fans turning on him again.

Genuinely not sure how to think about this.

    1) Masterplan by Fergie to loosen the purse strings of the Glazers
    2) Rooney acting like an ungrateful child and being rewarded for it
    3) Fergie bringing him around at a reasonable agreement (until I see confirmed figures this is possible)
    4) After a week of phonecalls, he realised that only City were willing to pay him enough money to switch so turned around
    5) He gets a nice deal on a short term basis and united flog him at £50m at the end of this or next season

I think 2 & 4 are most likely, 3 and 5 are a possibility & 1 is how I would like it to have played out.

If it's 2 or 4 then I think that in the long term this is a bad move for the club and we may regret it.

This event has done Rooney damage, though it will all be forgotten if he gets his act together on the pitch.
