Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

you may need to change the picture settings on the sky box to 16:9 .

or i that is already set ,you may have to change settings on the tv.

i tried the picture settings on the box, that didnt work.it seems to be the only channel it happens on.

they are using the full screen area for important data on sky sports news, most channels don't do that so you don't notice you are missing parts of the screen. Most likely your TV is cutting off the edges of the picture. Is it a CRT?

If it's an LCD there may be a 1:1 or 'overscan off' setting which will sort it out.

its a philips 28 inch one of the old ones half the size of my sitting room.its like someone stretched the picture side to side.the picture from top to bottom is fine.the first and last fifth of the picture cant be seen.

  • Subscribers Posts: 16,592 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

ah ok, it's a crt and you've always been missing the edges of the pictures on all channels, if just never really affected you until now (and it didn't matter). It's going to be more of an issue as more channels go full time HD and only offer a downconverted SD version and stop keeping their graphics etc in the safe areas..

Short of changing your TV you are pretty much stuck with it I guess..

it only happened since they launched the s.s.n. hd.something tells me its a gentle persuassion to get hd.

I don't think thats it, they went HD and wanted to use all the screen area for graphics etc, not waste a large bit of so people with older TVs could still see all the graphics. If you had an LCD you would be fine without having to get HD.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,131 ✭✭✭John mac

I wonder if you were to change to 4:3 for that channel would you be able to see all the screen?
    still wouldn't be right though.

i can only see 3/5 of the picture!

You are getting more like 4/5 of the picture, but it's the same for every widescreen channel you've ever watched on the TV. You just never realised what you were missing until now!

Unless there's something wrong with your CRT TV, it should show all the text, unless it has some sort of overscan fault.

Sky box should be set to 16:9 on Picture Settings menu.

What are the picture settings on your TV set to?

Use Scart to connect Skybox to TV.

Yes and that fault is due to your setup.

no its not because every other channel is perfect.if you had read the previous posts you would see another poster has the same problem.its sky that is the problem.

It is your TV, as mentioned above you are missing the same amount of screen every channel, you just haven't noticed until now. Every other channel isn't perfect, you just aren't missing such important bits of the picture.

i.e if you got a new TV the problem would go away, without sky doing anything.

ok grand, your are right then, it's Skys fault and everyone has the same problem, we are just pretending we don't and going to the trouble of trying to explain it to help people out for laughs....

and I just went to the cinema to get the full picture too.

note - I'm still missing a few lines on either side with my TV..

Well, I've no problems. Even on secondary TV via RF, I can see all the text, on a Panasonic CRT TV and a JVC CRT.

the older philips widescreen CRTs have a major width overscan issue across most models. As do some older NTL boxes.

i just went into the picture settings on my sky box the picture format was set to 4:3. i reset it to 16:9.altough i can now see the whole screen on s.s.n. the picture ratio is still not right.

Even with other people on this very thread telling you that they are not experiencing this problem you still believe that it must be a problem at Sky?

Think about that for a second.

ya thanks for that, your three posts have been very informative.

Three posts of stating the obvious in comparison to you burying your head in the sand.

I bet there are brick walls with more common sense than you.

I'm not sure what more you want from people, the very first reply to your OP told you what to do. You said you had done it and it made no difference. People try to help a bit more, you abuse and ignore them. Then finally actually do what you said you had already done a day earlier and it fixes the problem. WTF do you want from people?

Some people are just beyond help, being both ignorant and unlearned. (I'm not talking about the apostles either)

where did i say it fixes the problem,i said i can now see the edges of the screen, but the picture ratio is still not correct.this problem did not occur before sky re launched this channel.the settings had not been adjusted in the mean time.so that tells me it is a SKY problem. w.t.f. do you want me to say!

It's either the box or the TV. If you have a skybox set to 16:9, then it is very unlikely to be the box. Your TV should be set to widescreen.

If you have a UPC box they have a terrible habit of switching to the wrong settings as you switch channels and sticking to them. Double check it is set to 16:9, not auto or 4:3.

    Hi

26 inch Sony Bravia - UPC box

Same issue with picture on Sky Sports News being chopped at both sides....

Have changed all TV picture settings and i cannot see the full screen on any setting....

    There must be a way.....

Did the overscan suggestion earlier in the thread work for anyone...????
