    Hey,

I've currently got a lowly netgear dg834gv2 wireless router which doesn't
    cover the whole house.

I wanted to get an additional router and use WDS to extend the network.

As my current router doesn't support WDS, I figure I'll have to change the
existing one so could anyone recommend 2 new netgear devices for me ?

I'd like to be able to stream vid/music also (ps3) if possible.

Had a quick look at the WNR3500 RangeMAX Wireless-N Gigabit Router which
does support the protocol. Perhaps I should get 2 of them ?

    Any thoughts ?

    thanks !

you don't need another router for WDS, there is the new routers that have the DD-WRT have a technolgy which i think its call Unioversal Wireless Bridge.

I have that setup in my parents house and its working perfect since then.

If you interested in the model it WHR-HP-G54DD got it from ebay, the manufacture is Buffalo

Ive a Netgear wndr3700 and it's great for gaming, streaming etc.
Its also DD-WRT compatible which is a plus.

If ur 834 is covering most of ur house as it is u have 2 choices:
    1. U could add another router to it, turn off the wireless in ur 834 and let the new router handle all the wireless.

    2. U could add another router to it and use it as an access point. This would mean locating the new router at opposite end of the hse to ur 834 and running cable to it.

I got my Netgear wndr at complete.ie recently for €108...

Well, router arrived and I managed to set it up in 10 mins.

Enabled my DG834G router/modem to be a modem only
    Turned off its wireless
Logged into the WNDR3700 and connected to the ISP.
    Setup security

    Thats it pretty much.

Have since plugged in an external drive in its usb enclosure and
have streamed some movies down to my PS3...

The USB feature is buggy...ur better off using tversity on ur pc and stream through that. Also, ps3 wireless can be troublesome. Just incase u start having trouble..These are known issues.

Also if u intend using the 5ghz network ( ur wireless clients need to be dual band first), locate the router as close to the centre of the house as possible and mount it vertically. This provides maximum range and I've experienced the differences they make.

Didn't take long for the minidlna which is installed on the Linux OS of the device to start acting up so I've gone with TVersity.

Excellent product for anyone interested. Unfortunately of course it needs a
PC running but there you go :)

Anyhow, thanks for the tip !
