Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You're not Irish, are you? I don't know a single Irish person who would find a joke about slavery to be the least bit funny.

Because Irish people were so effected by slavery of Africans in the US?

    I do.

In fairness, if you know me from posting here, I'm pretty pinko and right-on as it were so I assume my jokes are regarded as just that.

Now, if you're objecting to the joke generally (and not my intent) then in the words of another black American hero of mine: I can't do nothing for you, man.

No, because the Irish people were affected by slavery. It's got nothing to do with race or geographical location. Slavery is slavery and the Irish suffered just as much as the Africans.

Lenny Henry did that in a 1991 film.

    EDIT: Found it

Allegations that he is turking our jobs are entirely unfair and unfounded as a) He lived in Ethiopia all his life b) His da was a emperor and prophet c) He's dead

    Ty Sir.

Quite right there, anyone believing that Africans alone have an exclusive association with the word slavery, is making a significant historical mistake indeed.

I have a choice between KKK outfit and a Nazi uniform for this year.
So, the choice is no whiskey, or no juice? I'd go for the latter.

    =-=

Dressed up as a pimp one of the years. Fun.
You're not Irish, are you? I don't know a single Irish person who would find a joke about slavery to be the least bit funny.
Because a) the Irish were slaves b) the Irish used slaves or c) Ireland was a big slaving trading country?

Oh, and we invaded some island as well. We only got off it when some volcano erupted.

I'd love to be in the queue. What's the best at least one bouncer will speak Arabic to you?

Wear a KKK outfit and cover your face in shoe polish. If anyone ask's what you are just tell them you're a hypocrite.

I'm sure the PC brigade will accept that.

If you're just going as a black person then I think you'll have problems, especially if you use stereotypes when creating your outfit.

    Avoid K.F.C?

if any black people confront you the best thing to say would be :

"what you talkin about jive turkey"

but seriouly some kid called to my door before at halloween and I closed the door in his face, couldn't see him.

Don't loads of people dress up as Mr. T every year?

    Nobody complains.

Does Mr. T not count as a black person? Has he transcended colour?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,487 ✭✭✭aDeener

sure stereotypes which are deliberately insulting and based on racist caricature be avoided, that is not PC just playing nice.

    ( i.e. Big Lips etc.)

what if he wants to go as bubba?

    Good times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 598 ✭✭✭Lemegeton

whoever told you that would be offensive is a moron and they need to take their head out of their ass. if you showed up dressed as a slave then they might have a point but if you are dressing up as a pop culture icon then tell them to shut the **** up
