Is "Tom" from Father Ted a traveler?

I was watching "And God Created Woman" today and when Ted crashes into the back of a car a man gets out and punches him. He is dressed roughly as if to signify a traveller I think. (Watch the episode)

But getting back to Tom, he talks in a bit of a different accent compared to the rest of the island, murdered a man once and robbed the post office (a view of Travelers that they are a violent people). It got me thinking.

    What are yer opinions?

I never thought of him as a traveller.
More of a psychotic loner type, a bit like a rural Irish Travis Bickle.

ps- what does Tom shout after he shoots the bird?

    ?

    Nah.

If Ted had crashed into a traveller, the traveller would have coerced Ted into hitting him so he could add facial injury to the accident claim.

    No.... because he's not

When you see how funny Pat Short was in his earlier stuff it's hard to understand how he's progressed to his recent stuff which is appalling, how anyone finds it funny is beyond me.

    Dass righht.

It's not. He's from Hospital in Limerick, John Kenny is from Tipp

Sorry actually I think it might be the other way round? I'm confused now.

But...but....he says stuff in an accent. What more do you want, punchlines?
Was it his or john kennys show that some mad oul one stood up and started screaming "You're only a bully" again and again?

No, just a local psycho. In the first episode theres a few references to the remotness and backwardness of craggy island. Tom being one and the dueling banjos thing too.

plus the tunnel of goats :D
