Things needing repair or maintenance

On the prom last night and noticed that some of the benches need some TLC so.. since we all have cameras on our phones how about a thread where we post up pics of things we see around town that need repair or touch of maintenance. The parks section of the council can be told of the thread so they could use it as a way of finding out what needs attention.

(hmm, watch how fast this accumulates the "I'LL TELL YOU WHAT NEEDS FIXING IN THIS FREEKIN TOWN..." rants :o )

Interesting idea. You could use street view for pics.

Isn't the council broke? Im sure after December budget they will be. Though if it is a health and safety hazard they would have to fix/repair it

it actually is a good idea with great intentions, but I think they would probably just rip the benches out and not bother replacing them :( unless it was on the run up to some festival or other.

Well that's the experience of what I've seen when things get run down, like a few benches that were on the small green in renmore avenue that were a bit run down and then one day they were gone and still not replaced. Not sure if that was the reason for removing them or something else, but they still haven't come back (but the concrete they were on still exists) and that was a few years ago.

Maybe it would do something to highlight some of the litter blackspots in the canals and campaign the need for fixing up some of these benches :)

there is a website called Ushahidi where it allows people to map reports of anything you like via SMS but it's probably too techie to setup and manage so just thought that since the us boardies are so active that, instead of complaining on here, we can collectively try to send a positive signal to the council that we do give a **** about the upkeep of the city's amenities (and don't start me on the smashed Buckie glass thing again )

on the council, I reckon they're doing a reasonable job with limited funds but if they got more public support and less barracking then it might make them more willing to listen and welcome the public's input rather than to react defensively and uncooperatively

minor fix needed on the walkway at O'Brien's Bridge end... curiously they recently fixed a similar thing at the Salmon Weir end, they must be saving up to fix this one :D

It sounds like a good idea. Even if the council couldn't didn't do it maybe some practical based FAS course or centre for unemployed would be interested. There could be some people out there who want to get out and do something to pass some time who might be interested in doing some of the smaller jobs that wouldn't have public safety requirements eg. painting.
