I like Seville for the Derby.

Recital looks less than genuine and you'd have to wonder how he will go around Tattenham corner considering he was running with his head stuck in the air and pulling left Sunday. If he could run in a straight line you'd give him a shout. (same comments would apply to Hurricane Higgins)

Ryan Moore was less than impressed with yesterdays race. Doubt anything was learned about the Derby.

Couldn't believe World Domination was favourite for the Derby. Looked good on debut and good reports but 9/2 for a horse for a classic after a maiden win seems stupid.

This French horse, Pour Moi looks intresting. Second favourite now at about 5/1. Owned by the Coolmore men.

I know it is a Derby thread but here goes.

Derby: I have €50 on Seville at 11s on Betfair, €40 on Ocean War at 27.44. I think Seville might go to France instead, and Ocean War looks like a plodder but he is grey so will be easy to follow. If Seville is confirmed for Epsom I'll put more on him. I think Carlton House might not stay and I would hope for slow ground. His sire Street Cry has an AEI of 0.84 and that is majorly boosted by Zenyatta with £4+ earnings. Outside her and Shocking he has not sired much and most of his winners are on dirt. I think he is another Dubai Destination: three wins and unbeaten before the big day, a search party out for him after the race. I'm setting myself up for a large helping of humble pie here. :)

Oaks: My bet on Together for the Oaks is busto, only €47. I think Misty For Me has a pedigree too speedy for the Oaks unless the pace is slow or the ground is fast. I put €115 on Beatrice Aurore at 21.17. She has only run at a low level but I liked what I saw. You can see videos for her and any horse at the Sporting Life website.

Beatrice Aurore, Oaks runner, trained by John Dunlop, is owned by Benny Andersson of ABBA.

I just got a text from Marty McFly...Recital won the Derby at 11/4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 299 ✭✭slaneylad

Anybody see Pour moi's last run in france, he never settled as Mikael Barzalona pulled the head off him in the first few furlongs he showed an unbelievible turn of foot nd flew past everything, the video is on youtube. the fact that fabre says that its best ever chance of winning the derby is also very interesting, the horse that was third in that race is also still entered in the race. he could be special!!

Poor derby imo and if it wasn't for breeding purposes frankel would be going for the derby.

I agree with you that it looks a poor derby. There will certainly be better group one races this year. The Derby has been a bit hit and miss in recent years imo, having been won by average horses like Kris Kin and Sir Percy who did very little afterwards. Yes there's been High Chapparal, Sea The Stars and the like, but overall I think it's become a very overrated race.

In case anyone didn't know, Johnny Murtagh is taking the ride on Native Khan now, not a bad sub to bring in.

I don't think you can ever judge how good/bad the Derby is until at least August or September. The last 3 Derby winners have been very good horses, and we've had the likes of Sinndar, Gailieo and High Chapparal winning it earlier in the decade.

The beauty of The Derby is the course itself - an uphill, downhill rollercoaster track with cambers and gradients - testing the agility and strength of both thoroughbred and rider.

    Back
    Seville 11.05 €100.00 €1,005.08
    Ocean War 27.44 €40.00 €1,057.46

I am totally pessimistic about my chances of drawing on this one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 453 ✭✭Denners.ie

Seville for me with Recital the main danger. If it is run at a solid pace I don't think Carlton House will make the frame, doesn't seem to have enough about him to stay the trip. Not really sure how to judge Pour Moi and Vadamar, the track might get the better of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,961 ✭✭✭✭mailburner

have the price on recital but id be happier to have the
    same price on seville

hope to hell im wrong but i don't see a derby winner in recital

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Treasure Beach each way for me at a price. Distance no bother and has some good form, think he's been forgotten about. Maybe for a good reason.

The fact Recital has a different bit on the bridle doesn't bode well for the headwind theory which made him cock his head lto. Will be interesting to see has he improved.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Recital looks like he'll go off third favourite a wee bit behind Pour Moi on the exchanges.
Pour Moi big danger. Fabre doesn't talk up his for nothing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

I'd love if Joseph O'Brien won it too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,974 ✭✭✭✭Gavin "shels"

Seville is my big bet at 6/1. Memphis Tennesse 25/1 e/w and Redical 11/2 my two smaller bets.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Hope Carlton House trails in battling for last place with Native Khan.
Good enough for the Turk fella and just so all those people that were on Bbc shouting on the queen will be sickened :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,047 ✭✭✭Itziger

Going with Seville ew and a small bit on Memphis and Pour Moi.

Thought Soumillion was easy on Seville in last 1/4 furlong in last race.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Lads anyone know how much Ocean War cost? Says on timeform he cost a bomb but can't find it online.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Carlton House has gone out to 4.3

Recital and Pour Moi are getting backed off the boards on the exchanges

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

He has some turn of foot Pour Moi. That's how he won his race in France, dead last and came around the whole field. Great horse

Well the BBC look a bit foolish spending most of the prep and the race focused on one horse. And still showing the 3rd placed horse after the race.

Jockey got lucky too on Pour Moi.

I was thinking before that. Of course they were going to focus on it though when it was the Queen.

I have a feeling that horse is going to prove to be very very good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,909 ✭✭✭greenman09

Had ocean war looked promising til last few furlongs. Does frankie detorri get any winners any more:(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Sickened. Typical the Queen's racing manager looking for an excuse, that he got 'impeded at the wrong time'. Funny that Pour Moi followed him right through. Best horse won.

I wouldn't know about him for the Arc though. He needs to be ridden from dead last. Coming from behind in the Arc would have to be sublime. Zarkava-esque.

Edit:I wasn't saying sickened to you greenman

What a way to celebrate winning the derby. Serious acceleration, he knew he had the race won 70 metres out.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Carlton House lost a shoe half a furlong out.
Of course they're saying he would have won if that hadn't have come off.
They're starting to sound like the English football team now.

    Treasure Beach at 25/1.
Carlton House third your 5/2 favourite

Barzelona needs his ass kicking....celebrated well before he shud have....amazing horse though, massive acceleration !!!
He will be in Coolmore before too long no doubt

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Rides Godolphin's over in France too. Not bad for a 19 year old.

€10 treble st, nicholas abbey (evs) dancing rain (20-1) and pour moi (4-1) €2100.M Barzalona nearly gave me a heart attack!!

Not so sure about that. At the winning line he was fully turned to the stands not looking around at where treasure beaches nose was and he only got up by a head. I think there was a smell of Roger Loughran off it.

O Briens two most fancied horses Recital and Seville weren't given a hard race and they will prove much better than their Epsom form .

Notwithstanding he should get a slap, celebrating way before the race was over. Madness.

a few reactions to yesterdays race

Mickael Barzalona - Fantastic ride as the horse seemed to be hanging a bit up the straight, probably deserves a slap for the celebration. Possibly didnt know where winning post was & 1st Derby win so i'd cut him slack this time.

Ryan Moore - Former champion jockey, did the Oaks-Derby double last year, show some class when you lose. Having a face like a slapped arse & looking like your about to cry is not a good look. Struggle to warm to this guy.

Native Khan - Would have been nice for Murtagh to do the Double but for the spite the owners have shown it would have been unjust for this to win the Derby.

Team Ballydoyle - Great effort from Treasue Beach & Memphis Tennessee. The more often Recital runs the quirkier he looks. A pair of blinkers are in his future. Seville was very disappointing.

Fantastic finish and a possibly star in the making (horse & jockey)

I think that was a false race. Its Treasure Beach in second which gives me doubts. I cant see that horse winning a Group One.
Id be willing to lay him for a place in the Irish Derby.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,431 ✭✭✭Morgans

Jockey knew exactly where the winning post was and knew he was going to get up. Even if he hadnt passed Treasure Beach before celebrating (it looked like he had from the inside camera angle) he knew he was going to get up. If the BBC scrutinised its own commentators who seemed to mistake the winning post more than once on saturday as much as the ride of the winner, it would serve itself a lot better.

The Beeb could have done a much better job overall. There was so little about any house bar CH before or after the race that it did spoil the day. I know they probably felt a certain duty but you'd have thought in the build up that CH was a certainty. More than once in the build up they said he was "the best horse in the race". Ok he was the Dante winner but it was such poorly lopsided coverage.
