This could be the big one for 2010. Jamaica and Haiti at risk of a major impact.

The centre of Tomas has just passed slightly to the south of Barbados in the last two hours. The wind went from northeasterly 33kts to now southerly 30 gusting 49kts. Look at the pressure fall and rise with it (the Q value), rising 5hPa in the last hour.

Lets hope Haiti doesn't see the full force of Tomas...They've had enough to deal with over this last year...

Haiti apparently about to get two foot of rain in the next 48 hours. Borrowed the link from another site.

For some reason the Fates are throwing it all at the people who don't have much to start with. :(

Thomas has strengthened quite quickly around the warm waters of Haiti and has regained its hurricane status. Looks like their all in for a serious drenching

Tomas as pronounced by the AccuWeather meteorologists looks like ToeMás, I don't think, but am open to correction that it's Thomas [as in St. Thomas].

A lot of the hurricanes have Spanish names, as is the case here, so it's pronounced Tomás, with the stress on the final syllable.
