I have done a search on here before posting this thread

I'm starting to build the entrance to my house soon and am doing a bit of research

    SGD in Ashbourne http://www.sgd.ie/index.php ,
    Aurora in Finglas http://www.aurora.eu.com/ and
LED http://www.led.ie/led/led/asp/section.asp?s=1 seem to be the preferred suppiers

I'm looking for ground recessed LED's to light up the piers and plinth blocks

Does anyone have any experience of the above suppliers products?
I know there is some dirts out there and i'd be as well spend the extra few quid to get a quality product as i'm doing it once and doing it right

Or does anyone know of any suppliers in the north?

Any advice would be much appreciated

i deal with the first two on a daily basis. aurora would have a much wider range of products, but would be a little bit more exspensive. sgd's fittings seem to come from a generic supplier who supply to wholeslaers like them with their brand on the box, is sgd's case its called eclipse, hillcrests are called lumilux. edmundsons and michael garry ltd are the aurora agents in that area, ie north dublin. another company i would recomend is ansell, there up the north but deal with most wholesalers in the south and again have a good range of quallity fittings.

i would go into your nearest wholesaler as the companys like sgd and aurora dont deal directly with the public. depending on where you are and who your local wholesaler is they would usually keep a few brands in stock ranging from cheap and cheerfull to the exspensive stuff.
imo picking stuff of the internet or even out of a catalogue is a shot in the dark so ask your wholesaler to set a few up and show you them lit.
personally i would go for a gu-10 fitting as you have a bit more choice when it comes to the range of bulbs you can opt for in gu-10, ie halogen, cfl and led.
you mentioned the north, the only company we deal with up there is ansell and there stuff is good quallity and a lot of wholesalers deal with them.

i would disagree, if you go to aurora for prices the give the listed price, if you go into a wholesaler who is an agent for them they will give you trade less discount and most wholesalers will take into account the quantity of what ever your buying and knock a bit more off. well those that want to stay in business will ;)
now take into account that if a wholesaler is buying all their gear off robus, ie all their downlighters for instance, they will be able to sell those cheaper then a wholesaler who only buys some of their gear from robus.
its a little bit more complicated then that but thats the jist of it.

That place is dearer than any other wholesaler in Dublin I tried.

Not just bulbs, but electrical cable, boxes, metal trunking.

Was told 230 euro for 38 meters of 3 core 10 square SWA.

Got the SWA in another whole salers 2 miles away for 180 euro.

same deal with the metal trunking,4 euro dearer per length .

Basic LED GU10 buld was 14 euro, yet exact same LED bulb was 10 euro 2 miles down the road.

Sorry, but that Aurora place in Finglas is dearer and thats a fact.

i think ye might have your wires crossed...pardon the pun.
aurora are a lighting showroom and im not even sure there open yet.
they dont sell swa and electrical accessories or any of the items you have mentioned in your last post. can you post up the name of the company that you got the gear in and the name of the company which you think is dearer.

Big electrical shop up in the industrial estste at Finglas dual carriageway, beside All Metal Fastners and in behind Dennis Mahony Motors,by the side of the M50,Finglas exit. The sell everything Aurora related too.

I got all my stuff alot cheaper in the electrical wholesalers on the NCR,just around the corner from Ballybough/Summerhill.
