Buying Samsung GS from the US

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone here ever bought an unlocked/simfree SGS phone from US ebay or other site? The exchange rate is pretty good and could have it posted to a US address and then onto Ireland.

Just looking to see if there any issues with power (understand the charger would need to be changed), but is there anything else that makes this a bad idea?.

    Thanks

A quad band will work on nearly any GSM network in the world, but it will only work on 2G OR GPRS, so to get around this, you have to buy a phone that will support the 3G bands in Ireland (These bands are similar to Tri and Quad bands): UK has the same, i think most of europe has, but America is different:

    GSM:2G
    UMTS:3G

In Ireland we use: GSM 900 and GSM 1800 & UMTS 2100
In America they mostly use: GSM 850 and GSM 1900 & UMTS 850 and UMTS 1900

So the American version of the phone would work on in Ireland 2G or GPRS, but NOT on 3G.

I know the exchange rate is good, but phones from America dont usually work on 3G SO you're nearly better off looking in the UK, or Europe.
