Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

thanks OP! , been looking for a half decent drive at a half decent price for a while.
I say some text when I was purchasing about 'not been charged until target number of buyers reached' , do they have to reach a target before they sell at that price ?

Had a WD portable drive earlier in the year, brand new, and it died. Lost a load of data.

heard of two similar WD stories since then.

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 CiaranP

I have one of these (cost €99 last year), and have ordered one from here - Thanks OP!

to kcb - I'm always wary of backup drives dying and backup my backups - Seems like overkill, but I don't want to lose all my photos.

to Rooy - not sure about the number of buyers, but by the 'the deal is on' text, it looks like they'll be shipped.
    Thanks again.

Wow - 40 quid for 250Gb ... I think I'll walk into Peats and get an Iomega 1TB for 80 quid thanks... ok, I won't really as I already did - I have to lovely Iomega drives - both 1Tb each - both from Peats - both 79.99 each...

Can't find the exact ones on their site but here's some thing similar...

Heard they are sh1t. You'll have to get your shoes on and walk back when it breaks.

What are these like for plugging into TV USB? Read somewhere that they need power from USB to work (5v?). Will that render it less useful?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 771 ✭✭✭Rojo

Yeah I prefer WD to Iomega by a long shot!

I hope you somehow accidentally swallow them and almost get resuscitated in ER :D

    - Only joking! Iomega have been shít ever since the dawn of the Zip drive & it should have ended there, sorry......

This is not exactly the same, is it?

The WD is 2,5" portable with no power adaptor, which makes them prefect for travelling with your laptop.

The Iomega comes with a nice heavy power adaptor which makes them perfect to dump on your desk and leave them there.

This is 39 euros for a portable usb powered 250 gig, decent little bargain

    WD >>> Iomega

Besides 1TB desktop drives are always cheaper per GB. the main attraction of this is that it's portable.

*hugs WD Elements 1TB drive* :D

Are these still in stock, cant get onto their site from work.

Sounds interesting, not the biggest in storage when you think of what you can get these days for slightly more money, but 250gb would be perfect for backing up some games I have like WoW, SC2 and obviously loading some movies etc on it :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,924 ✭✭✭✭RolandIRL

There's 51 left in stock and 7 hours 25mins left on the clock. about half sold, so i'd say no danger of selling out yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,849 ✭✭✭Redisle

This is about 6euro cheaper than amazon. Not an amazing deal but not bad nonetheless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,137 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

    Ordered there, cheers lads

    Just ordered one...

A very good deal...but you only get it if they manage to sell 100 of them at the 39.99 price.

There's 2 hours 20 minutes left, so get on board if you want this deal.

    Boobar

Have googled around and it seems like a decent deal. Is that defo a good price for one of these? Would be very useful for movies and music backup.

    From their FAQ

    How does it work?
We sell one electronic item a day for as cheap as possible. Generally it’s stuff which we’d actually like to buy ourselves or steal from someone’s desk. HOWEVER, to activate each daily item, a minimum number of people must purchase it within the twenty four hour period (you can see all this info in a big friendly section on the left hand side of the page).

We’re not complete criminals-you ONLY get charged when the deal becomes active. If you’ve signed up to purchase and the minimum number of people isn’t reached, you simply don’t get charged. Easy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,137 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

nightmare, thought that was bought :(

Sure its wet my taste for one, so if its not coming from here its coming from somewhere else.

Cheers for the information though :)

yeah, me too! Oh, the confusion!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 826 ✭✭✭Jayd0g

The deal had a green "Deal is on" under it last night around 11. My card was charged this morning so it looks like it's all good so far :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 863 ✭✭✭Rooy

when i bought yesterday , im sure the totals on the left were SOLD/AVAILABLE , so I believe it had already passed the/any minimum.
The deal for today still shows BOUGHT/NEEDED , so I guess once it passes the minimum it removes any reference to minimum needed.
But ya ,they should make that a bit clearer.

also saw the WD 1TB portable hard drive in Currys for 119.99 last weekend(reduced from 219.99). think it is a decent value

    Heya Lads and Ladies,

I work for Gruupy, and we just wanted to be clear on the whole "Minimum Purchase" thing. We don't have to sell all of the stock for you guys to get your stuff, but there is a minimum amount needed before people will get their products (although if that minimum isn't reached, obviously no one's credit card is charged). In the case of the WD hard drives, we had to sell 20 (out of a total stock of 100) of them for the deal to be on, so once we hit 20 sales, everyone gets their hard drive.

If the deal isn't active yet, there'll be a yellow sign saying "Come on! X more buyers needed for the deal to be on", and if the deal's active then it turns green and tells you the deal's on.

So, if you ordered a hard drive from us yesterday, you will definitely be getting one. Hope that clears up any confusion :)
