Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Internet Causing Comp Crash?

Sometimes, out of the blue, with no warning, my computer will just restart itself.
It does not give any notice, or any details about update installation or anything...it just shuts down and re-starts.

It doesn't seize or freeze, I don't get a blue screen either.
I've had a good feel of the computer after it happened one time and it doesn't seem to be related to over heating.
And upon re-starting, it doesn't run a sysyem recovery or scan or anything, and then works as normal, with no difficulties.
It just starts up as though I had turned it on for the first time that day.

Also, it only happens when I'm online, it never seems to happen when I'm working offline.

Anybody have any ideas why this is happening?

First thing to try is to try a different browser...

    Google Chrome

    Firefox

well it seems that internet explorer is clashing with your OS, as suggested by JonathanAnon try different browser

    Really?

The comp is running XP and I'm using IE?
Don't they go hand in hand?

It's generally best practice to ANY browser other than IE... I find it much more susceptible to spyware/malware/adware ... I recommend Firefox to all my clients, though I'm fast thinking of changing to Chrome...

Since internet explorer is his OS this seems unlikely.

OP first figure out if you have actually been blue screening. If you machine is set to automatically restart then it will do just that, the blue screen being the barest of flashs to the eye.

Look in C:\windows\minidump. If it exists and files are there created roughly on the dates in which the machine restarted then they were in fact OS crashs.

Download Firefox will not remove the passwords etc that you have "remembered" in IE..

I checked and they are there, but now that we know this, what can I do?

Hmmm...I downloaded firefox and it asked me if I wanted to save all my forms etc... and I said I did.
But low and behold, they're gone!

There are 22 of them. Do you need them all or just one or two?

all would be handy. You can zip/rar them and then attach that here.

Your crash's are all over the place. Run a memory scan with Memtest and if that is clear update your bios to the latest version.

I got the memtest and 'ran' it, but nothing seemed to happen.

How do I know if it has found anything?

Run tests 5 and eight continuously for about four hours. If errors come up you will see them.
