Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Over or under full leg tights? It's these important questions that matter.

    Both....

.... I wear 2 pairs over winter - my Assos thermics under, and Assos Spring/Fall over.

Is this one of those "fashion" things you youngsters go on about, or is there some practical reason?

BTW - my (black) socks are covered up by the overshoes anyway

Even if foot straps are involved?

Yes. i don't imagine the straps are that comfortable on bare feet anyway.

Fashion, definitly. A bit like wearing socks with sandals. It may be comfortable (I wouldn't know mind), but a definite fashion no no!.

Socks are underwear. The clue is in the title. Only Superman can get away with wearing underwear on the outside.

I saw a €35 pair of socks in Cycle Superstore a couple of weeks back and I laughed. What can branded socks offer that I don't get with two pairs of Dunnes sports socks (3 for €5)?

I always saw it as practical. Water 'spreads' somewhat when absorbed by materials. If it's wet out and you have waterproof socks on over your tights, the water will 'spread' down your tights and under the waterproof bit of the socks. Keeping the socks under instead means this doesn't happen.

Absolutely nothing. They're exactly the same. It's all just part of the Euro conspiracy.

Socks are an item of attire which one must never skimp on.
A nice cycling outfit with shoddy, unbranded socks is akin to wearing your well cut Italian suit with... well, shoddy socks. It shouldn't be done.

I must confess a Euro-blunder so. Used my new bib-tights last week for the first time with socks over them. Thought they looked ok at the time, I know better now though (if there was a smiley for shame, i'd insert it here).

    over.

in my defence the cuff on the tights are a bit loose and the over lap is only an inch or so.

    :o

Depending on the sock/tight combination, this can be entirely acceptable. Please post pictures of the items so that we can pass judgement.

Well, I use cycling specific socks for a couple of reasons -the first is that the seams are often stitched differently, to avoid painful rubbing, and most importantly, they're made from marino -which keep your feet warm, wick away sweat and moisture. The elastine rich ones you get in dunnes et al can hold the moisture, raising the possibility of trench foot ;p
