Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    hey all,
I was just wondering if anyone could help me out here I am thinking of moving in with my girlfriend and her child in the next few months, she does not work and is on lone parents allowance..
If we move in together does she lose her allowance? I am not on a great salary and earn around 24k before tax a year and would find it difficult to afford to pay for all of the rent and support her and her child...
So does she lose her allowance and if so can we get help some other way?
any help wud be much appreciated.
    thanks

One Parent Family Allowance is a means tested payment paid to women (and men ) who are caring for a child or children with the support of a partner. So if you move in with her, she would not fall into above criteria.

    There are options though.

If your girlfriend is available and actively seeking work, she could apply for Jobseeker's Allowance (or Benefit if she has any relative PRSI contributions). Alternatively you could apply for FIS.

Things could change in the budget though - most likely not for the better.
