I though Ade looked good when he came on at the weekend rejuvenated, hopefully he will start scoring and help lift the burden but Lennon is going to need to start scoring, Holtby too.

Dempsey to be fair has chipped in with a few really important goals it's funny as people keep saying he's been a flop he really hasn't.

I really must have watched a different game to everyone else :-)

    I thought ade looked jaded

I thought he looked ok. He wasn't involved a huge amount, but Ade does good work off the ball by running wide and he was at this again. It opens space for Bale to run into, which is ideal.

As for Dempsey, while I don't think he's a flop, he is extremely limited. I wouldn't take his goals back, but this penchant he has for shooting from 30 yards out really annoys me. He also seems to run into quite a few dead ends (like Parker) and doesn't have the skill to get out, meaning if he's leading any break it effectively ends with him as by the time he's gotten the ball onto his right foot and into a position where he can pass/shoot, the opposition defenders have caught him. He doesn't have it easy to be fair, as VDV played that role really well and I guess we're all expecting someone to have the flair of VDV when in that position, or up front. That's what I'm hoping Holtby will bring to the team.

He works hard and always gets stuck in but would he get into any of the other teams challenging for 4th other than maybe Everton? I think not, and this is the problem.

I thought Dempsey was starting to find his feet in the run up to Christmas but he has regressed again. He gave away possession a lot against Newcastle, and shot when it wasn't on.

We haven't seen the best of him yet, nowhere close, hopefully it will come.

I don't think he would be in our team if we were full strength. Holtby will keep him out of midfield and Ade will keep him out of the forward line.

I think this guy has some potential

is it okay to mention at this point that I put 20euro e/w on him to get top scorer at the start of the season .... at 150/1:D even if he finishes in the top 4 scorers its still about 33/1.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,168 ✭✭✭franktheplank

I'm an early thirties spurs fan and I can't remember in my lifetime a Spurs player being on a run of form like this.

I know there's people saying he's too young to be considered a Spurs great and he could easily feck off and leave us in the summer (please don't!).

But when is the last time a Spurs player has hit this kind of form, anyone care to chip in?

Clive Allen - 30 odd league goals.

    http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/439954/20130227/gareth-bale-transfer-news-real-madrid-calderon.htm?

I would sell for 50 million - but only if that money was given to AVB to strengthen.

We could buy 3 top players for that money and would be more of a unit.

Bale is a galactico and im afraid we just wont be able to hold on to him.

Personally if we get champs league then i think he will stay with us for one more year and leave in summer of 2014

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,910 ✭✭✭Sugarlumps

With today’s market 50 million realistically will only buy you two players of quality, unless we unearth some hidden gem like Michu.

Any club knowing we have that amount to spend are going to bleed us dry. I think he’ll stay for now granted we qualify for CL. Bale comes across as a sincere likeable and honest pro, he has youth on his side so no need to jump ship just yet.

Were not a million miles away from progressing as a club to the next level, we need heavy investment in the summer and to put a stop to selling our best players otherwise what’s the point?

yeah i agree but is any player worth 50 million pounds ?

I agree he comes across a very nice lad but can anyone turn down the chance to play at real madrid ?? Has any player ever turned that chance down over the years , i doubt it

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,746 ✭✭✭irishmover

We don't need heavy investment. We're not going to spend big like the big 3 spenders. It's just about spending correctly. I'll be more confident with who AVB wants in the summer than previous summers under Redknapp. To be honest though. I really hope we don't buy for the sake of it. We don't need to change this squad massively to compete. We've signed 7 players in two windows. Our youth is running away with the u21's. we just need to brush up on a few areas and I think we'll see a top squad for next season if we have CL to back us in the market.

£50m wouldn't get reinvested into the club. Not all of it. There's also a stadium to pay for. Would be worried with what Levy would decide to do with that money.

A old video of Gareth at Southampton which someone kindly uploaded to the soccer forum.

Looks like he could hit a free kick before he came to us :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,746 ✭✭✭irishmover

Rumours after Calderon's quotes are that Madrid would be prepared to offer £70m for him.

Absolutely ridiculous if they offer that much. No way in hell is he worth it but thanks very much if that's what they pay. I'll help Bale pack his bags in the summer if that's the offer.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,375 ✭✭✭Antisocialiser

I really don't want to let him go, regardless of what the offer is. We have a chance to cement a CL place and push on to challenge for the league. We should be building the team and more importantly the club around a player like Bale. With him in the side we will attract more fans, higher sponsorship and better players to improve the side.

I wouldn't accept £100m for him; Do we want to join Arsenlol at the end of the season when they take their balance book for an open top bus ride of North London?

    COYS

No player is worth £70m. It's stupid money. If we already had CL football by this summer we'd have enough of an attraction to bring in players who would offer more than one player sold for £70m. Arsenal and Arsene Wenger don't invest the money back into the squad. It would be a different story if Levy was going to pocket it and hand it out to the shareholders. We can come out with a better squad spending £50m than keeping Bale.

It's all very well having £50m to spend, it sounds great to buy 2 £25m players and have a great team.

What people keep forgetting is that players who are worth £25m usually want higher wages that Spurs can afford and they wanna go to a club that is gonna be in the Champions League every season.

The simple fact is that if we sell Bale we won't be able to attract quality players to the club. We'll have to gamble on new talent and hope that they mature into top players like Bale. The cycle begins again. Maybe we'll sign the new Bale, or maybe he'll turn out to be the new Bentley.

The best we can hope is that we make the Champions League, convince him to stay for one more season, then get a shed load of cash for him and get lucky with replacing him.

CL is a prerequisite to buying established players; that and getting massive wages, which we can't afford.

With AVB managing and Bale in the team we can attract young players from across Europe with massive potential.

Also Bale is pulling us through games at the minute. I don't buy into this one man team opinion being bandied about but there is no doubting his class and the way he is affecting games. He might not be Messi or Ronaldo but he's biting at their heels. Kids growing up watching the PL will be enamored with him and it will only serve to increase our fanbase, sponsorship and revenue.

We could get oil money, bitches!
