It's really sad, he was only 32, just married and a kid on the way, due next month. Don't think we should be talking about how he died look at how he lived.

agreed, not fair to his memory to speculate... it's very sad, young man in his prime.
like him or not, he was the only guy able to stick it to KS when it mattered

    Really terrible news, RIP Andy

Pretty pathetic that Paul the octopus gets more publicity in the media in this country when he dies than a legend like Andy

Andy Irons, a former American world champion surfer, has been found dead at the age of 32.
The news is particularly tragic as Irons’s wife, Lyndie, is pregnant and the couple’s first child is due to be born in December.
It was originally reported that Irons died following complications from dengue fever but it is now believed he might have suffered an overdose.
Irons's body was found in a hotel in Dallas with claims that methadone and other drugs were found inside the room.
His father Phil Irons confirmed the news of his death and the Association of Surfing Professionals also released a statement.
“The world of surfing mourns an incredibly sad loss today with the news that Hawaii’s Andy Irons has died,” said the official family statement. “Andy was a beloved husband, and a true champion.
“Irons, 32, withdrew from a professional surfing event in Puerto Rico last weekend due to illness, and passed away during a layover en-route to his home in Kauai, Hawaii. He had reportedly been battling with Dengue Fever, a viral disease.
“At this time the family thanks his friends and fans for their support, and asks that the community respect its privacy. The family also asks to not be contacted so their focus can remain on one another during this time of profound loss.”
The American, born in Hawaii, won three consecutive titles between 2002-2004, his best years in the sport, and was still a regular on the ASP tour, winning as recently as September at the Billabong Pro Tahiti.
He had pulled out of the Rip Curl Pro Search event in Puerto Rico citing illness, and was found dead at a hotel in Dallas where he was staying.

    RIP :(
