Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

I have a HP laptop which continuously shows a blue screen when I try and turn it on. I have since got a new laptop but i want to retrieve files and pictures off my old laptop. I am very much computer illiterate so havnt a clue where to even start to do this. is it straight forward, with advice should i be able to do this myself? or am i better off bringing the computer to a professional?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated :)

BSOD, such a pain in the ass :) How far into the boot up does your Laptop get. If it fails when booting to windows it could just be a driver issue. Have you tried booting in Safe mode?

If safe mode isn't on the table and the HDD hasn't failed you could just buy yourself a nice little USB bay. Very handy to have around.
Take the HDD out of the laptop. Check if it is IDE or SATA. Then buy the bay (2.5 inch)

    I bought one off E-Bay for 5euro.

If the HDD has failed, it can be quite expensive to get the data back.

    Good luck with :)

Easiest option would be to make yourself a ''Linux Live CD''.

Download Linux, slap it on a cd, then boot from it in the problem laptop.

You should hopefully be able to view and thus backup your files to CD/DVD/flash drive.

Mind you, could you tell us some more about the BSOD, like codes or messages as there may also be a way of using Linux to repair your system, rather than having to go to all the hassle of backing up and then refreshing the entire computer.
