hmph, this thread is now a debate. Embracing and moving on.

Jesus lads, if people find offence, they can tell us. Let's not assume they do out of fear of non conformity.

One person at least has come on here and expressed concerns, we may not agree, but we can at least discuss them, rather than taking them as read.

Or is it that the sight and smell of blood unnerves you or that you feel you must go into mourning for the egg that didn't get to be a baby?

    Jokes aren't necessarily malicious.
In my opinion, it's not of any benefit to be all serious with regards to particular conditions all the time.

    Can't win either way.

We tell women they make brilliant sandwiches and to keep at it - Sexist.
We tell women they can't parallel park, and not to keep at it - Sexist.

Some women will never be happy.

If women could read a map properly & give directions to take the turn before we actually reach the turn & not, "You should have taken that last right", then there'd be no need to ask for directions!

Women should watch Rally, learn to be like the guy giving directions there!

If the woman was driving the would not need a map, why because us women know everything.

Nah I try not to perpetuate stupid sexist generations about men, it's not fair, and you have to give people the space to be people no matter what their gender instead of heaping assumptions on them.

Do you not think a bit of light-hearted, good-natured humour (and not cruelty) though might help the person? It can't be fun constantly having to face a reality of seriousness. And it doesn't mean the person who's telling the joke doesn't care about the ill person or doesn't recognise the seriousness of the illness or isn't saddened by their situation.

    Just my opinion anyway...

Nah just get the man in your life who insists on driving a Tomtom Satnav with the Darth Vader voice pack. He'll listen to that and you can get on with reading or doing your nails or playing games in your smartphone.

I don't like his humour at the best of times either but I don't think the comment was malicious or having a go with people who have haemophilia in their lives,
and if the comment has done nothing else it brought the topic into the thread and raised some awareness of the condition and gave a little bit of information to people.

Was in my girlfriends car last week as we drove into UCC. We found a space at the college in the housing estates. 1 space, enough room to fit 2 cars. She was adamant she couldn't park there because it was apparently too tight, balls to that, I got out, swapped seats and showed her how it was done...easy peasy, didn't rub it in though as I'd get no bonks for yonks then

I do take your point :), but events in your life and those you love can sometimes change your opinion imo, suppose what bugs me is that you make a joke about certain illnesses, it is frowned upon while others equally as severe are deemed acceptable.

I do accept that the person can mean no malice :), its the consistency thing that bugs me, :)

    your points are valid

equally he wasn't trying to raise awareness he was getting a cheap laugh at the expense of a community that is misunderstood and because of the tainted blood products issued to them in the mid 80's that some degree of stigma was attached to.

so i stand by my post

    Dude, really?
You want to sit in the car with your lady, doing everything the Carol Vaudermanesque voice instructs you do to exactly and yet not 'listen' in the same way when she tells you to put your damn dirty boxer shorts in the laundry basket?

No it's not. They nag and moan and demand you turn left here and take an immediate U-turn and swerve across 3 lanes of traffic on the M50 and reverse UP the ON ramp so you're not driving against the flow of traffic.

    Am I playing right?
