Will this be as bad as they say? Not too bad here in Mallow.

I don't see the barriers coming up

Depends who "they" are. As worse as the media have been saying? No. The media have been talking absolute BS about this, calling it Hurricane Tomas when that system is thousands of miles away.

The Met Eireann warning on the other hand just mentions the slight risk of coastal flooding which hasn't happened yet but could later and "onshore gales, high waves and low pressure" - which is happening at the moment.

A question for the experts. When will it stop raining 18 miles west of Galway - I need to walk my dogs.

What is the estimated time of the cold front clearance? Often, that is the best time for stormy windsad the front sweeps through, you can go from torrential rain and squally winds to dry and near calm within ten minutes.

I hear you, better as a matter of strategy to prepare for the worst. However on the subject of high tides, you wouldn't see London being effected by a supposed weather event such as this... It's 2010 and we can't even protect two large cities of ours from a high tide if it happens to coincide with a low pressure weather event. A lot done, more to do is right...

why do so many people in ireland have such anti irish negativity???

Firstly, London is 30 miles inland, secondly did you not see / hear about the massive flooding issues in the uk in 2008 & 2009 where local authorities hadn't a clue what to do.
