The gusts inland and along the east that are going on right now will die down later tonight and tomorrow but as the system moves to the southeast those winds will pick back up and blow from the opposite direction on Tuesday, roughly the same strength gusts along the east and midlands that are happening now.

Rain is easing up here. Atrocious driving conditions earlier on with a lot flooding on the roads.

Pressure down to 975.2 mb. Falling rapidly as the low moves down.

need a bit of help with this one.. I have collected 500L of rainwater in 5 hours from 32^2M roof.
so that works out at avg 100L per hour .

How do you calculate the mm rainfall from this?
a degree in mathematics and meteorology, a powerful calculator and an award winning amount of patience.

Or you could ask Su Campu, Deep Easterly, Villian, MT or Maq

*WEATHER* Rain will continue through the night and into Monday morning (8th) and there may be a risk of localised flooding. The strong winds are expected to die down during the night. Motorists are urged to continue driving with care, slow down, watch out for debris on the roads and be aware that crosswinds may cause hazardous driving conditions. *MAIN TRAFFIC* *N2/MONAGHAN* Reports of debris on the N2 around Corracrin, north of Monaghan Town. Gardai are en route. *KERRY* Reports of flooding on the N70/Castlemaine Rd out of Tralee and also around Annagh.

Was around Salthill earlier to see Galway Bay and then the Spanish Arch to see the River. The Bay was really rolling, waves crashing right up onto the Proma few brave souls out walking. At 5.31 the time of high tide the river had not over the top but was pretty close to doing so.Not much of a storm surge had developed as the winds were only really getting going at that point.A photographer for a local newspaper took a pic of us looking at the river though so we might be locally famous:).The rain really started then so we headed back.

John Mac, here's a rough calculation:

    a litre is 1,000 c.c.

    therefore 100 litres would be 100,000 c.c.

32 sq metres would be 320,000 sq cm.

One cm of standing water on that surface would give 320,000 c.c.

You measured 100,000 c.c., therefore to get that much water off the flat surface would require 0.32 cm which is 3.2 mm.

So your hourly rainfall rate seems to be 3.2 mm/hr.

1mm of rain is the same as 1 ltr/m².

    The roof is 32 x 2 = 64m²
    500L over roof area = 500 / 64 = 7.81 ltr/m², ie. 7.8mm of rain.

    Averages out as 1.6mm/hr

EDIT: I thought it read 32 x 2m, but it's only 32m², so double the rate, ie. 3.2mm/hr (as MT said)

Just back in from a mountain forest in Ballykelly getting some wood for the fire. Very very very windy, with real proper snow. It was like a blizzard!
