    Yeah, that board will take up to an early C2D chip. The E6600 is the quickest it would go to I'd reckon, i know for sure that Dell did have a model with that board that came with a E6300 so that would work definitely (may need a BIOS update )

    Should be able to pick one up used for €40-50 quid id say (the E6600 that is)

    Ok might go for e6300 as am not sure about e6600 how
    do i go about updating the bios for this or does it need updating thanks

    If the e6300 works in the board, then definitely the e6600 2.4Ghz Core2Duo (Conroe) will too as they're basically the same chip, just intel clocks one of them higher. The board would probably need flashing to the latest bios, check for the latest on the Dell website. The e6600 usually goes for around €40-50 on adverts.ie, shops won't stock them as its a long time since Intel stopped making them.

    Be careful of getting the newer 3.0Ghz e6600 Pentium, its newer and 45nm (Penryn) and would definitely not work in the board, it was only released this year

    This ^

    Although you'll need to go by the model of computer on Dell's site as opposed to the model number for BIOS updates

    I was looking at all the various chips and couldnt figure out the difference between the 2 6600's, then I seen one was a Wolfie and the other was a Penryn.

    @Gaz : You'll want the Wolfdale E6600, 65nm and 2.4Ghz

    Wrong, Wolfdale is newer 45nm dual core that will not work, Penryn is the 45nm quad, Conroe is what You need, 65nm

    OMG, I remember pre-ordering a conroe :D

    You're gonna need some thermal compound and some pure alcohol/acetone/nail varnish remover (unscented) to clean the chip

    This crowd are in Dublin and will ship straight away and only charge postage:

    This guy used way too much, I would use the size of 2 grains of rice and use a plastic card (not flexible paper like that gob****e) to spread evenly before seating the heatsink
