Gift ideas for Mum to be - Xmas?

    Hi all,
my sister is expecting her first baby next March, all very exciting as its the first grandchild / niece /nephew in our family :D

She will be ordering all her nursery equipment etc over the next few weeks, so that angle is pretty well covered. I was hoping to buy something for her, for Xmas to help with the baby (they are currently in the middle of building their own home so money is tight).

Can anyone advise a gift that would be especially useful / a treat / or unusual that you have or received that was of help to you with a newborn?

I was going down the Orla Keily nappy bag route as I know she would never justify buying it for herself, but just found out she doesnt like the new print.. bummer! Was thinking maybe a glider / rocker with footstool?

This whole area is very new to me so all ideas and suggestions very welcome. thanks!

I loove my glider, would never have bought one myself and was delighted to get it as a (2nd hand) pressie from an aunt.

I was also given a gorgeous changing bag from Pink Lining - very funky and easy to get online.

If she doesn't have them and you think she might be into it, you could get her something like the Gentlebirth home study pack - hypnobirthing by an Irish doula, also available online (google Gentlebirth or Tracy Donegan). It's not cheap so she mightn't get it for herslf, but definitely worth having).

Nice breastfeeding tops are also good to get, both for being a practical present and for the unspoken message of support.

Or a voucher for a spa - some of them do lovely pregnancy treatments and these days not many people can justify spending their cash on pure pampering.

As a mom to be i have been wondering what i would love for christmas, I think the following would be great:
Hair dressing voucher - great blow-dry and head massage would be so good, can never justify the money. maybe give 2 with a baby sitting voucher she can claim from you for afterwards?
Spa voucher - pedi or preg massage would be divine
The changing bag is a great idea, or a really nice vanity bag or case (got my sis one when she was pg and she loved it), she will need one for hosp.
Voucher for isabelle oliver or other expensive nursing website or boutique.
Some lovely creams, for face and body, l'occitane is lovely or Elizabeth Arden 8hr cream, Eve Lom

I gave my friend some dr hauschka stuff, think it was blackthorn body oil set, its for stretch marks and there was also some nice bath stuff, i think its important to spoil the mum to be as there will be loads of gifts for the little one!

Thanks a million guys - some lovely lovely ideas in there. Her partner will (I imagine) be sorting her out with the spa treatments, he's usually very thoughtful that way and my mum works in beauty / pharmamceuticals so she has nearly every cream on the market!

Will definately check out some of your ideas (quiet day at work!) and see. Would like to get her something to 'use' rather than treat herself with, although you never know. It's a very exciting time but busy for sure, hope to surprise her with something great that she's get continued use with.

Thanks again, will be back if I need your help.
    Have a lovely weekend :D

+1 on the bag. I couldn't believe the gorgeous bags that are out there for mammies and babies when I went looking. Most of them don't even look like baby bags - I found Amazon great and I'd second Cat Melodeon's recommendation - the Pink Lining ones are fab.

Also preganant and thinking about the best presents I got for my 1st.
My aunty bought us a travel cot,it has probably been one of the best baby items we got.
You could make her up a little baby hamper with some nice baby towels, ikea have the cutest changing mats, vests, bibs, creams, nappies anything you want but all stuff that is needed and will get used.
