Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just wondering has anyone bought a 3d TV or 3d ready TV. Looking at getting a new tv in the New Year and was wondering if its worth it getting one of these. I dont watch that much DVD's and the only channel I can see that is 3 d is the new Sky channel. Have a PS3 that plays Blu Ray but not sure if its worth the money buying one of these '3d tv's' ?

Is there a future in it ?

3D TV Not Growing as Fast as TV Makers Expected in 2010

    npd-3dtv-sales-so-far-a-bust-but-that-may-change-as-decent-3d-content-is-produced

While early 3DTV sales were hugely disappointing, Toshiba announced on Tuesday that they are working on 3D sets that won't require you to wear glasses. Toshiba said they will unveil three models of the 3D television before Christmas

3D TV market growing slower than expected

Personally I would wait and see. Having said that. Panasonic make a stunning high end 3D plasma TV that is superb with ordinary 2d so if 3D fizzles out you would still be left with a nice set.

Recently updated the software on my PS3 it says that it can now play 3D Blu Rays so that is another feature you'll have.

Thinking about getting one myself. But the cost at the moment is a bit much just for being able to watch Sky 3D. Very tempting though. Has anyone got a good deal on one yet?

Yes Im toying with the idea of a 3d tv also. I got a magazine from currys and they have a 50" 3d samsung for just under €1200 but im not sure if its a good one or not here it is in argos for €1889 http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/5369777/Trail/searchtext%3E3D+TV.htm
    DiD €1099 http://www.did.ie/Product/SAMSUNG-50andquot-3D-PLASMA-PS50C680G5KXX/18362/447

Bought the 50 Plasma from Currys and happy enough with it. Sound not as good as my previous Phillips lcd.

Have looked for places on net to legally download 3d films so I can play them. Tried downloading some from the below sites
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-3d-movies.html
    http://www.biohemmet.se/3dtrailers.php

No joy on these anywhere else I can download?

What was wrong with the 3D trailers you tried? On Side/Side 3D video, I found I needed to press the 3D button the remote in order for the effect to work.

    Anyway, try this link:

I'm not impressed by them and don't think there's a future in them,I wouldn't bother getting one,I'd rather an l.e.d tv.

What, in your opinion, makes an LED backlit LCD display more impressive?

I would wait until next year OP ,I personally believe 3DTV is a stop gap for better technology thats why I didn't buy one yet.I don't believe it will completely fissle out ,but I do think people will prefer not to wear glasses and get better resolution.Quad HD/4K2K will be out soon and I think this where it's going linky

imho, I suspect the 3d screen used in the upcoming 3ds from Nintendo will push the concept of 3d without glasses, so I'll definately be waiting for another 12 months or so before commiting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,721 ✭✭✭Irish Gunner

Tried downloading a few from http://3dvision-blog.com/category/3d-movies/. Put them on a usb memory stick. Then when I went to play it on the tv it says resolution not supported How and can you change this ?

I am upgrading my TV and looked at 3D. I did a lot of checking on "glasses free 3D" and it seems to be years away. I saw a statement from Nintendo (can't remember where) saying that while they could do it on small handheld units, in their opinion it would not be available on big screens for 5+ years.

Have heard these tv's are way off also. Definitely longer than 12 months.
