    HI,

I am considering getting external insualtion on a terraced old council house.
Do I need to be worried about planning as the external surface of the house will change?
Should I ask my planning office to ask for an exemption in planning.

    Any advice is appreciated

I think that's your safest bet.

Depends whether the appearance of the outside will change. I replaced render with a light grey finish and no planning permission was required.

The company carrying out the work should be able to advise you.

Not recommended as they are more interested in securing the job and getting the money even if it entails telling a little porky.

Check with the local planning office and/or apply for a cert of exemption is the way to go.
