    Hi All

Recently bought iPhone 4 with IOS4.

Its from apple and Sim Free

Is it possible for me to restore it to 4.0.1or even 3.x.x?

I did have all SHSH Slobs with Cydia on previous 3GS but obviously tis all gone now with new phone

    Cheers

    .ie still there.

In my case, the iPad still thinks it's connected and the wireless symbol remains in the menubar, but nothing will load. It's gotten really bad today. I may have to downgrade if the official release doesn't fix it.

    Reset network settings?

Tried that several times with no effect. In fact, yesterday I had to do this just to get it working again, and it happened again a few minutes later. It's a software problem. Loads of people over on Macrumors with the same issue. Some are suggesting that the 4.2 GM undid the earlier fix for wifi problems, or that there's a hardware problem with certain iPads which the fix disguised. It's not a compatbility problem with my router anyway - it's an Airport Basestation. Proximity may be a factor, but I never had any issue before. Hopefully the final release tomorrow will fix it.

No confirmation (there never is), but the rumours about 10.6.5 coming out on Wednesday were correct, so I'm hoping they were right about 4.2 as well. On the other hand, they said iTunes 10.1 would arrive alongside 10.6.5, which it didn't.

New rumours now suggest it's not being released until the 16th. Maybe they are taking time to resolve the wifi issues.

Hmm, they have already released the GM version to devs. That's byte to byte compatible with the client release in most cases.

Looks like iOS is delayed until the 16th

Not when they encounter major issues. The wifi problem with the current GM is pretty bad. It would have to be fixed quickly. If they released the current GM today, they'd just have release another update next week. It makes sense to just delay the whole thing and do a second GM.

It's just a rumour, but it coming out today was just a rumour as well. It makes sense given the wifi problems with the current GM. Apple don't need the bad press.

    Arrggghhhh....................

iPhone, iPad Update Wait Continues, iOS 4.2 Release Postponed Till November 16: The iOS 4.2 was just about to be released but according to recent reports, the updated operating system shall be out in the market come Tuesday, November 16. http://www.nynewspost.com/news/iPhone--iPad-Update-Wait-Gets-Over-With-iOS-4-2-Release-This-Friday-1289503324/

I hope this report is wrong, I have an iphone4 bought on 4.1 it's jailbroken but I want to unlock it, thats not really a problem, I can use it on vodafone.

I gave my wife an iphone 3g (at&t) jailbroken, unlocked, and told her NOT to update it, what does she do?, updates it to 4.1, so for the past month or two she has jailbroken ipod.

I was hoping to get jailbroken and unlocked 4.2 on both of them over the weekend, looks like it wont be happening.

It absolutely amazes me how a company like Apple can implement changes to their systems and don’t properly do impact assessments and testing to make sure that what they are doing actually works and that the changes they have made do not have a detrimental affect on the current system

Shocking that the don’t seem to have a proper SDLC and Validation process that works.

That doesn't make sense. You're complaining that they don't do testing to ensure what they are doing works, because they are currently testing? Anything before a public release, even a GM, is a test, to make sure everything is working okay. Apple never said that they were releasing 4.2 today, other people said that. Apple clearly have issues to sort before a public release. Once they has dealt with those issues, they'll release it. How can you complain about them not testing enough when they are still testing?

Exactly, in fact the developer ( public beta effectively) GM version is a good way to test. It may be certain routers in certain configs, in certain countries. Apple need to do that more, not less, their cult of secrecy not withstanding.

Installed GM 2 on my iPad and so far so good - no wifi drop outs.

However, the latest rumours (there's so many) suggest the official release has been delayed until November 24th.

If I install gm2 do I need to wipe all apps and reinstall?

No, not if you use the update option.

So the beatles are now on iTunes store, big deal where's my 4.2!

I've noticed a bug in 4.2 GM for iPhone. The iPod app's "repeat one" track option doesn't work properly. It finishes playing the song once, skips to the next track and starts repeating that instead. Doesn't always happen though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,213 ✭✭✭culabula

I too am noticing FF and RW buttons not working in the Remote app with GM2 and ATV, while trying to play my Beatles' albums over and over.

    In lossless, natch :-)

Both tinyumbrella and cydia are now saving SHSH's for 4.2 beta.
On some forums they're saying this is unusual so it must be important for future jbs. Might be worth saving yours.

Are you using a dial-up modem?? 19 minutes for me. :D

By the way, in case anybody else runs into this problem, I had to put my iPad into recovery mode to get rid of the beta version. It wouldn't update normally.

    Downloaded and updated.

Airplay works great steaming to my airport express.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,324 ✭✭✭tallus

Downloading now myself, hoping the bluetooth support will allow me to connect my Apple wireless keyboard.

So if I had the beta 4.2 installed on my iPad, how do I overwrite it with the official release?

I have a 30mb connection and it's still taking over 25 minutes. Probably because a lot of people are downloading it.

    3 Hours is scary tho..

just restore it or else put it in DFU mode first

    I appreciate the advice!

Is there any way of doing this without restoring? Would prefer to avoid having to do a backup.

If you've got 4.2 it will update as normal, since this is 4.2.1.
