Very strong rumours of Death From Above 1979 reuniting for at least one US festival appearance. The prospect made me squeak aloud.

Archers of Loaf have also reformed.

Hope to catch them at some point over ther summer.

I'd never heard of them until I listened to the My So Called Life soundtrack cassette back in 1994.

Come to think of it that was a pretty good soundtrack.

Same as me dude and then stumbled back upon them in Mallrats.

You've just reminded me I need to get back in to My So Called Life. So naff and 90s, and yet strangely compelling.

Started listening to 'Allo Darlin' last night. Twee, but I find refrains such as 'Max von Sydow couldn't play you' endearing.

I just saw a Coachella poster with DFA1979 on it. I honestly did NOT expect it.

THEY SET US UP BOMB! I MEAN... THEY'VE REUNITED TO PLAY THE COACHELLA FESTIVAL IN CALIFORNIA. DETAILS ARE SCARCE BUT HOPEFULLY THEY'LL PLAY SOME OTHER DATES. IN MY HOUSE. THAT WOULD BE NICE.

Oh I dunno, seems kind of appropriate to yell about DFA. Few other bands come to mind that can scream lyrics like "I love your company" with quite such a fury.

    new strokes album announced....... boom

New Arcade Fire release in March sometime too. It's all go all of a sudden, isn't it?

    EDIT:

Incidentally, your signature is cruel, terrifying and inappropriate for an alt/indie forum.

Coachella looks mighty tempting but I'd be doing it alone and I hear it's just not like festivals here, with it's strict security and designated drinking areas and such. Still Cracking line up and should be great weather.

They'll hopefully play Primavera too, speaking of which, anyone fancy a jaunt to Barca for it in March? My peeps are being a bit flaky on it... Flights were quite reasonable... shouldn't be too expensive... <100 return

I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

I was out at Workman's last night and there was loads of people talking about DFA, all giddy with excitement :p

I'm tempted to go to Primavera Sound again, but the line-up isn't as good as last year.

There's a few acts I like, but I have seen them all, and there's a lot of iffy bands.

Still, an excuse for a week in Barcelona :)

Don't worry, there's always New York. Constantly great things going on worthy of a visit.

Any idea what the release is - single/DVD?

There's a bit of dispute about it still. City With No Children is getting a single release on March 14th, but there's something else on the way shortly after.

It's been suggested that it might just refer to the full Spike Jonze video. I'd heard a while back that they were working on an EP, and I just assumed it was that, but it looks like it might be something else. Their endlessly douchey manager has pretty snarkily dismissed the idea of an album, but hasn't responded outright to a enquires about an EP.

Exactly, sorry it was supposed to be a joke but evidently the panic it inspired overwhelmed my otherwise faultless comic timing.

Just got a mail from city disks. They're closing in two weeks. Really really sad to see this happen. Always loved this store and it's staff. Best to all of them in the future.

Damn shame, Borderline seemed to avoid shutting down recently, must be hard to afford rent in temple bar.

in happier news, I picked up that "real estate" album in Freebird yesterday, it's winter outside but it's summer in my ears; it's bloody great.

That NI guy who works there said they played Crawdaddy a few months back, I really wish I'd heard this in time to catch that show.

I always wondered how they stayed open. Not that it isn't a fine shop - it is - but given the track record of record stores in Dublin, I was always impressed they were still going.

Alas, reality seems to have caught up with them :(

In case those in Cork (or who visit Cork) have not heard Plugd Records is moving to its new premises on Feb 12th. The centre will also include their café, Gulpd.

    Old Vic Tunnels? Sweet!

Saw Villagers there last year and it's a quality venue. Will probably go to this even though I'm not a huge fan.
