    It hasnt demised () yet.

I think it's fair to say that some people don't like Universe because, to be fair, it doesnt feel like Stargate used to. It's dark, grittier, and less over the top then previous series. I personally prefer this, as Atlantis showed towards the end that the formula was getting old (even if i still enjoyed it). They needed to take the show in a new direction, and i for one am happy with the way it's gone.

There's a whole forum dedicated to StarGate, why not start new threads for new angles? If this angle has been discussed in another thread then I've missed it as it must be lost in the thread, whereas by setting it up fresh I have seen it.

Regarding the article, I think the guy is in denial. SGA fans aren't causing SGU to suffer, it's the lack of SGU fans that are causing it to suffer. It may have been better off if they had dropped StarGate from the name, as it is not the StarGate most people used to want to watch. SG-1 had a certain humour, action/adventure, sci-fi (even supernatural at times) feel about it. SGA was a carbon copy. SGU has no humour, very little action/adventure, and other than the fact that it is based on a space ship, it has almost no sci-fi! It seems to be going for more political intrigue and psychological drama. That's not a bad thing, but SG-1/A fans are looking for something else in general, and those who would be looking for what SGU has to offer wouldn't think to look to a StarGate franchise for it.

New angle? Excuse me, but there are tonnes of posts made by the OP on this forum about SGU going under, and there is a dedicated thread to the topic 'SGU next for the axe?' started by the OP. That's a perfectly appropriate place to post this!

It's not like there's a lot else to discuss that the thread is forcing other current topics onto the second page. Why not just stay on the topic of the thread, or stay out of it if you don't like it? The topic of this thread was a claim that SGU is doing so badly because of angry SGA fans (not whether or not it would be next for the axe). Do you agree with that? Is SGU suffering as a result of angry SGA fans as claimed in the article? I've commented, on topic, that I don't believe that is the case. It's just a shame that you seem to have chosen to ignore the actual topic and my comments on same.

Exactly....it's about the exec. producer of SGU and his comments in regards the fans, if the fans are punishing SGU etc. I personally don't accept Stargate fans are punishing SGU, the bottom line is it's not drawing the viewers in, for whatever reason. My issue is the exec. producer should not be blaming fans, because those same fans put food on his table.

Personally I think the fact that SGU has struggled for ratings is a symptom of the type of person who watches it and the times we live in. I'm generalising in a big way of course but SGU viewers know their way around the internet and are not going to be constrained by having to watch the episode on TV.

Also a lot of SGU fans outside the US (myself included) aren't going to wait the few days for it to get over here on TV and will just acquire it(:pac:) online. So revenue for the series from overseas is going to be way down also.

I may be jumping the gun a little but I think after another couple of years Sci-fi shows will not be economically viable in the way they are currently shown. Sci-fi shows will be a few years ahead in this regard but all tv shows are going to end up in the same position.
Shows will need to be released on the internet and be available to everyone at the same time with no region restrictions and payed for with a couple of short adds tailored to your region. They can still be shown on TV but the emphasise must be on making it available to everyone on the internet.

SGU fans are not SG-1 or SGA fans there are SGU fans plain and simple,

as has been stated over and over SGU is not like SG-1 or SGA, therefore SG-1 and SGA fans arent gonna automatically follow it, SG-1 and SGA fans like there sci-fi having well sci-fi in it, and a good sense of adventure, and a bit of humour,

honestly anyone who liked O'Neill and McKay have no reason to tune into this show, as there is no caracter remotely resembling there carcaters in this show, even O'Neills brief appearances are way to serious,

ill put it as basic as i can to the people running the show, removing the humour and adventure from the show is just like removing its soul, thus far SGU is an inferior copy of BSG, not so inferior that i dislike it, but inferior none the less,

even to remove the soppy background stories would be a start, time to get this show on the road people, how much god damn time do you need to set up a plot,

also ill give it to richard he found an interesting angle for his new thread, now as long as he keeps his promise not to start any more episode threads i think well all get along ;):D

yeah this is basically the main reason shows suffer, for every person who watches a show over here before sky (E50 a month) show it months later is probably costing the show makers money, as why would sky pay so much for the show when probably half there potential audience has already seen it,

its like Boardwalk Empire AFAIK sky arent showing it till early next year, even though they just signed a hugh deal with HBO to show there shows, wtf so they expect people to do with there internet connections, watch porn:D,

also i blame the ratings system they use,

In my opinion the reason for SGU getting bad ratings is that it is a bad show. I was surprised that a second series even got made! I still watch it (mainly since there is eff all else on), but among friends we have named it "Stargate Depression".
    • It actually manages to be boring, which is difficult for a Sci Fi series
    • No one (almost) ever smiles, or if they do its a wierd grimace!
    • It is done on the cheap. like Star Trek DS9, it is set almost permanently in the same setting, thus saving lots of cash on film sets and exploding spaceships.
    • Spoiler Alert Coming next if you arent up to date on Sky TV!
    • Sorry, but just when I thought it could not get any more depressing/worse(Spoiler Alert! ) I find out Fat Jewish Nerd Guys Mother is dying of AIDS! :( For gods sake, I want to be entertained in some way, and that aint it!
Star Trek wrote the book on this type of thing. You need balance, i.e. some heavy thought provoking stuff, then a bit of comic relief, then some mindless action/fighting,a few hot chicks/aliens wearing a shortage of clothing, with a bit of moral comment on the times we live in thrown in.
