Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey all,

After a year of searching I've finally been offered another job! :D

Just got a call there and they want me to start next Monday which is fine, and as it happens I'm supposed to sign on tomorrow anyway so will be in the local Welfare office, but before I go in I just thought I'd ask one or 2 things here:

    - I presume that once I tell them I'm starting a new job, benefits will be stopped immediately?

    - Will I be on emergency tax, or would I be better calling the tax office today too. I know what the salary is going to be, but obviously the final specifics have yet to be sorted/signed.

    - On a more practical level, I've been out of work for a year and trying to manage on a vastly reduced income while meeting my commitments. I'm going to have to buy some "business casual" clothes but given that I won't be paid for a month anyway (and the possible emergency tax thing) is there any "back to work" allowance or anything you can get to tide you over for the first few weeks?

    - Anything else I'm forgetting?

    Thanks for any advice..

They stop from the first day of your employment - so you may be due part of a week - you can ask for this to be issued by cheque to your home address if you don't think you will make the post office to collect it.
I think you can contact the Tax Office to ask for a certificate of tax credits - this will ensure you aren't on emergency tax - you may need to double check this in the taxation forum.
And as for back to work allowance - there isn't anything through social welfare schemes - however if you check with your community welfare officer through your local health clinic and ask about an emergency needs payment to see if they can help.

And best of luck with the new job :)
