You running the FD 10 miler on Saturday Ray? Would be a good one for testing 1/2 marathon race pace and seeing where you are at.

No, I've taken this month off racing pretty much.
But now everyone else is running it and I want to run too :(

In that instance it will be novel for us both to be at the finish at the same time not feeling like death or requiring medical assistance! ;)

I assume you'll toss your responsibilities up in the air and head to the pub once we come through? :D

Well jaysus, surely everyone will have finished by then anyway? ;)

    11.29k in 46.57 (4.10 pace)

Club session. Had a choice between 6x1000s and 2x20 minutes, I reckoned the 20 minutes was better training for the half. We split into two groups, each going different ways around a 1k circuit - we got the wrong side, with the long straight into the wind :(
No-one to chase on the first rep, but I did have someone right behind me to keep me honest. Set off a bit of a crazy speed, think I was under 3.40 pace for the first half lap, but settled down soon enough into a steady 3.5x pace. Dropped a bit on every lap on the windy straight, picked it up again over the rest of the lap. First 5 lap run - 4.97 in 19.49 (3.59 pace)
Five minutes break, and then on to the second run. This was tougher. A lot of people are racing Saturday so were on easy runs now, I was pretty much running on my own. And I was a little tired from the first rep :o. Anyway, kept plugging away, lap by lap. Pace slipped a bit from the first rep but not too bad - 4.93 in 19.57 (4.03 pace)
Short laps for warm-up and warmdown, and I was done.

Happy with that session. I'd no-one to chase and was running though grass, but I hit my 2x20 at race pace.:)

    Today
    8.81k in 48.52 (5.33 pace)

Wrecked, so a recovery run was the order of the day.

Just another easy run in to work

    6.32 in 35.22 (5.36 pace)

Went along to the club session this evening. Lots of people racing this weekend so we just had an easy run, followed by strides. A nice sssion fo the ex-couch25kers, and for the kid, joining me for a last run before his training starts again next week

    26.25k in 2.09.12 (4.55 pace)

Last long run before the half, but I was tired right from the start of this one. Couldn't go up to Phoenix Park because it would be full of people puking rat piss and crashing bikes ;) so Tymon it was. Started with a muddy lap and and around the pitches, just to get my feet good and wet at the start. Added some 'variety' by crossing the bypass over to Cherryfield and doing a lap around there. Never really felt good on this run, but managed to slog it out anyway.

Hmmm, about 100k this week in total, probably why I was tired.

    6.66k in 37.02 (5.34 pace)

    Recovery run in the rain.

2010, my first year running, I reached 1000 miles at the end of December.
2011 I passed 1000 in September, and ran just under 1600 miles in the year.
I hit 1000 in June this year, and I'll pass last year's mark on tomorrow's run. On target for 2000 by the end of October, close to 2500 by the end of the year...

    8.23k in 38.38 (4.42 pace)

    Hill session with the club.

A huge number of people down tonight, so the hill at Speaker Connolly looked like a Tube station stairs at times with people running up, down and around. Went with the lead group and we did four laps, possibly for the first time?
Messed up the Garmin recording on the last lap, but as far as I can tell it was
    5.55 (3.49 pace)
    6.11 (3.56)
    6.02 (3.53)
    6.00 (?3.50?)
(same lap each time, but the Garmin gave a different distance for each one)
About 3 minutes recovery after each.

Tough session, but I was happy to get the four laps done. We usually run out of time.

Just thinking, the downside to all of this is that there's no way I'm going to run 60% further next year - more like 25%. And my diet is about as clean as it's going to get - I've lost a couple of stone in the last two/three years, but there's not much more to go. So... what next? I'll probably have to start doing doing core work :( or crosstraining :(:(:( ...

You think I'm made of money?:pac:

I have considered getting a cheap bike for my commutes instead of the bus (alternating with running, obviously). But it just seems like so much hassle, maintaining it, bringing it in through the house in the evenings or locking it out front? blah blah blah...

I guess I'll do it eventually...

    BHAA Zurich mile

Last track race of the year, thank ****.
Lovely sunny day over in Santry, if a bit windy, but as I was warming up around the track I just didn't feel fast. All in the mind of course, but I felt the same during the race itself - I was running, but I didn't feel like I was racing
Time was 5.32 on my watch, a couple of seconds slower than I expected but about right, right in the middle of the (5) runners in my standard and I think about the middle of the whole race. Maybe some day (when I move up an age group :)) I'll train properly for these things and feel like I'm getting them right, but not yet...

    10.51 in 50.48 (4.50 pace)

Bit of a stupid run home. It often happens when I get stuck waiting at traffic lights in the early stages of the run - I speed up too much in compensation, and the pace on the Garmin is fine but only because it doesn't reflect how fast I'm really going. It's not the end of the world if I run at 4.40 pace for a while, just bad discipline...
