Into work with a bag on my back. Don't like running in with a bag, but on Tuesday I spent over an hour sitting on the bus in and I like that even less

Bit of a slog this one, up to Tymon Park and around and around the edges and pitches. Going wasn't too bad, but I felt tired most of the way around.

Tired because that pace was upped!! ;)

The midweek runs are shorter so the warming-up first mile brings the average down more, and the route includes a lot of stops to cross roads. My real, moving pace is probably about the same.

    6.56k in 35.39 (5.26 pace)

I was wrecked after yesterday's run, very tired, and legs stiff and sore all over, so this was very slow and short recovery. Then off to the park to watch the kid (and a big crowd of his clubmates) run in the crosscountry. 700m today, 6th of 31 :)

I was going to post on Monday to remind you it was October. Thought I'd give you a chance to prove your old mind wasn't slipping. You failed my test. :P

Edit: you must have more mileage now than the whole of last year?

Met up with a couple of the guys from the club for a few laps of the Novice course. We were going a bit faster than I thought. Good to try out the spikes again ahead of the race, they felt weird for the first 10/20 minutes.

Legs feeling a bit wrecked these days - left is stiff from knee to arse, both calves are tight - so I took yesterday off. (Worse than that, I even used the foam roller  and am thinking of a visit to a physio :eek:)

No, but every time I do a warmup with the kids I think "hmm, I should be doing this too"

club run. Just an easy run tonight, except the only person running with me was our speedy woman, so it was a little faster than it should have been. (Most splits were in the 4.3x range)

Cross country day today. I was out in the park early, the juveniles were racing in the morning before the Novice races in the afternoon. Numbers were down on last week because of the weather, but there were some new faces out too. (We're starting to take a harder line on kids who go to training but not races, will see how that works out in the next few weeks)
The boy had 800m today, over a proper cross country circuit for the first time. Completely ignoring my instructions to go out a bit harder this time:), he was right at the back at the first corner 200m in, but then worked his way through the field to come in fifth :D

    Dublin Novice XC - 5.93k in 22.46 (3.50 pace)

The family wernt home after his race, while I hung on and watched the other juveniles races and met up with the rest of the club team. Only got one warmup lap in, and no faster work, but I felt loose and ready to run, just from all the jogging around watching the other races.
Women went first in their 3k race - good to see a full team out from Bros Pearse, including jscmum and the third-place finisher (as well as RacoonQueen and Claralara from lesser clubs ;)) - and then it was our turn .
Started the race fast to get a decent position. Too fast as it turned out - I should have learned from my son:o First k was 3.30, and I'd guess I hit the first corner going faster, maybe 3.20 pace? From there my story is a familiar one, of sad and slow decline  Second k 3.40 pace, third 3.55, fourth k 4.02  I was really feeling the pain around the halfway point - felt like my race was over and I might as well drop out. The back section of the course was really killing me, I couldn't find a good path through the downhill and the mud (not that anyone else could either, but that's not what you're thinking when you're tired), and I was losing positions on every lap. Once we got to the bell things got a little better, at least this was the last time I would have to run this hill, this patch of mud. 5th k was a slightly respectable 3.56, and last k was at 3.40 pace - but 3.40 wasn't good enough, I lost all the battles I'd been fighting over the last couple of laps, including to a guy from Sportsworld I beat in Rathfarnham
So, not a good race for me, but a good day for the club. Three teams of runners (don't know how we did in the team competition yet), and a 3rd place finisher in the women's race. Not bad for our first race in the Novices in over ten years.
