Inland, mean windspeed is dropping down to 25mph with gusts struggling to get beyond 40mph over the last 5 mins or so.

There's been a series of heavy, squally showers here, the last one produced a gust of 72.9km/h. Skies have darkened considerably and the street lights are on

I thought the south east would see a bit of a windstorm but judging by the last few posts ive seen were not gonna get anything more than an odd weak gust. Is this right?

GFS has highest gusts for the southeast coastal area 3-6pm.

Near Drogheda here and there's nothing much happening, I'd barely even call it windy, and our village is notoriously windier than anywhere else around here.

yup, off the scale! Also what you;d be seeing pretty quickly if you were out in a boat in it!

wind barbs in the center of the black show 55 knot sustained windspeed.

Very interesting thread, keeping me awake (barely) and would just add these comments:

-- peak gusts may in fact still occur on west coast in an hour or two but from what I can see now, it shouldn't get a lot worse, although Malin Head will ramp up, now thinking the peak gusts may be around 80 kts in general.

-- wind should increase rather markedly in eastern and southeastern counties when a weak trough finishes crossing the country soon, and allows the wind direction to become more west than southwest. It probably won't be much like the situation in the west but there will be stronger gusts soon, probably from about 2 p.m. on until almost midnight.

-- watching radar for any signs of tornadic wind streaks, nothing much has developed towards that limit yet.

-- hope you all stay safe and if I lose consciousness here I will catch up on the developments later.
