Seas off West Donegal earlier, hard to get a sense of scale from that but that rock is about 30ft tall

Still terrible here, absolutely torrential rain out right now, lucky most of this town is built on hills but the area in the valley is in serious risk if this carries on

With this in mind. Do you think it would be fair to say the most notable thing about this storm is the duration of the strong winds? Certainly gusts up to 70 mph in Autumn and Winter are nothing unusual for the Belmullet area. In a major winter storm there'd be gusts in excess of 85 miles per hour there.

Gusting to 51kts at Donegal Airport at 1730 and 54 kts at Derry Eglington

In general i think the eastern half of the country have started to get stronger gusts in the last hour or so. Judging by reports from ops in here.

I think that is a good point Nacho. A relatively long storm system but Belmullet has yet to beat its jan 2009 record of 96knots. I think Claremorris might have beaten its jan 09 record though by a few knots but haven't looked at the records.

Gusting up to 56mph now!! 29 mph mean.

    Powerflash maybe.

Yep Maq, I suspect so, no thunder to be heard (would be hard to hear in this wind anyway) and nothing since.
