What were you expecting it to be like? We've had winds above 80kph and gusts above 100kph all day and its still going yet. There was also about 6 hours of torrential rain which has caused a lot of flooding

    Thats basically what was predicted..

I was expecting 140km/h gusts for you and 100 km/h further south.
Let's face it Letterkenny sees 100kph several times each Winter

Was meant to be on Stena at 9pm tonight but that's been cancelled and we've been transferred to a 9am sailing tomorrow which is weather dependent...

I'd love to know how the Irish sea is, anyone noticed?
Nothing to see on the coast, you need a good easterly for big waves on the east coast.

They had a 100km/h gust in Shannon Airport so it must still be stormy where you are.

was away from sligo all day but on way home drove past 4 trees in different locations and any number of large branches and even a broken wall.

its still blowy now and winds going as high as 50knots in Sligo town and 60knot on the coast around strandhill and rosses pt. This is to last until around 10pm according to Gerry Murphy then go East.

We "only" had 10mm of rain here all day and it was with miraculous joy that I discovered that my rain gauge was still working. Oh something has just blown over outside and smashed. I think its the light outside.

jeebus, just when I think, what little we've had is all over, we get an unmerciful gust again.

How long more of this storm do we have? Is it waning already?

The rain made last night feel worse but the wind has been stronger today according to the stats.

I was about to post the same as Mike65, seemed to be far worse last night where I am out here in Kill.

Defintley no ordinary storm here in South West Donegal.
Its been a few years since I have seen it this bad.
Im sure at times the wind has gone over 140km per hour, I dont have any wind measurment gauge though.
Its still as fierce as ever out there.

Beginning to get some ferocious gusts in firhouse, southwest Dublin.
Can this be right! Winds without doubt more sustained and gusts stronger!

It is documented in the met eireann jan 2009 bulletin:
    http://www.met.ie/climate/monthly-weather-bulletin-2009.asp

Deep Easterly, here are two satellite images of that storm. First at 1258 GMT, the second at 2040. Lovely curl on the later one. No UK close up images for them unfortunately.

True, the noise outside is unreal, just a non stop roar. Some power.

Dublin Airport, Mean 63km/h Gust 93km/h

As for here mean 21km/h Gust 42km/h probably will stay around these levels into the night but maybe we might get some of that blast that Dublin are getting.

I must say that it has lasted longer than I expected here. We've still got winds of over 70km/h and gusts of just under 100 km/h.
Would love to have been down the prom to see the sea.:D
