It will work for calls and texts but you need these for internet and mms, not too difficult though

Thanks for the reply. Are they the same as the ones in the sticky?

    anyone able to help!

Can send MMS pictures from the phone fine, but can not receive any at all. When the message comes in, it has a download button in the message, and clicking on this tries downloading for a few seconds then an error message 'download of message "no subject" from "x" was unsuccesful'.

on meteor network, and mobile network is set to automatic. the access point names has Meteor Data ticked in green, and has Meteor MMS just underneath, as if only one option can be picked.

now maybe I need to edit this APN, but when I select it, this cant be done. Maybe because its an automatic selected network? the only options available by clicking menu are delte, save or discard.

any help is much appreciated, and it might not even be a device specific problem.

    anyone????

    Hey folks,

I picked one up today and can't get it unlocked. Keeps coming up incorrect pin. I used the link from the first post and it's not working. Any ideas whats wrong? Any help would be appreicated.

My youngfella did. It's not a massive leap from what I can see. The SF is just a bit smoother, though he wasn't running a 2.2 rom on his hero so it's not an apples to apples comparison.

Ok, New boot.img updates with working kernel for Seb's and Kallt Kaffe's ROMs.

KK even has overclocking, (I may be dangerous and see if that'll boot my de-softened (didn't work!!) or recompile Seb's with the oc'd kernel! (perl, boot kitchens and hacks it is so))

Fixed Led's (had to toggle auto-brightness on and off)

Testing now to see if WiFi sleep is fixed, all reports I've seen are positive, but they're thin on the ground so far. (looks like mine has dropped:mad:)

For those on Paul's 2.2 considering switching, I know Seb's install automates a wipe, although KK's doesn't I don't think, you still may have problems (ie a wipe is recommended).

    *2.2 Only*
A way that you may be able to get around that is clockwork backup & Titanium first (as always!), install new rom, reboot, reboot again into recovery, advanced recovery and then restore data.img, reboot and your apps settings etc should be there!
    */2.2 Only*

If not, just reflash new ROM again and restore apps + data and settings with Titanium and reinstall paid apps from market(a bit more tedious).

Anyone on 2.1, you can restore apps with Titanium, but data (contacts, settings, etc) can be incompatible between the two so sync contacts to gmail.

im really suffering here guys. im trying to debrand this and put a custom rom on, but i keep getting stuck at this point..........

Extract the fastboot folder once downloaded.
From a command prompt (at the directory containing these new files!) run ‘fastboot-windows flash recovery recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.8-blade.img‘ (subsituting ‘fastboot-mac’ or ‘sudo fastboot-linux’ if not running

i have no idea what this even means. i suppose it would be wise to leave well enough alone? its not that straight forward is it?

If you have fastboot.zip downloaded, move it to c:\, download and use 7zip and extract files.

This will make a new fastboot folder that should be located at c:\fastboot.
put the clockworkmod img file inside the fastboot folder (I recommend 2.5.1.8)

Also download the md5sum checker. Place that in the fastboot folder you made and extract it using 7zip too.

Then go to start > run type cmd or type cmd in the search and press enter.

    type: cd c:\fastboot

    It will show c:\fastboot

    Then type: md5sum recovery_clockwork_2.5.1.8_blade.img

and see that it matches this: 20dcbd18aa26c7faf3f04ac7c694b56b

If it matches connect your phone with the power off to your pc. Turn on the phone pressing power + volume up. It should remain on the green android logo.

In the cmd window type: fastboot-windows flash recovery recovery_clockwork_2.5.1.8_blade.img

It will push the file over fairly quickly, a couple of seconds really.

After it's done type: fastboot-windows reboot and wait for the phone to reboot.

You now have clockwork installed which will allow you to backup and install the custom rom of your choice.

Download the rom you want, first put the zip file into the fastboot folder and run the md5sum tool to ensure the file wasn't corrupted.

In cmd at c:\fastboot type: md5sum name_of_rom.zip and make sure it matches the number in the OP of the rom thread like you have done with the clockwork.img

Now, place the rom on your sd card and turn off the phone. Power on + volume down to enter clockwork.

In clockwork you use volume up/down to navigate the options and home to select and back to go back.

First, back up your existing setup.

You should then wipe data and and then wipe cache in the clockwork menu which will erase your contacts/apps/everything else!!

Then choose install zip from sd card

choose zip from sd card and pick the rom you have placed on the sd card and click to confirm.

It will install the ROM and then you reboot into your fresh install!

I'd be too scared to try that in case I wreck the phone. Whats the chances?

Pretty slim to be honest, the first bit is just sending a new recovery file to your phone, then with the new clockwork recovery you install the rom of your choice.

Really at this point there are a couple of fixes that I believe really make the phone unbrickable for general users. We may suffer some boot-loops or inconveniences, but as long as you try to stick close to the documented and tried and true methods you'll be fine in the long run.

Now, the people developing other things with this fix have a chance of bricking, or getting deep in it anyway but that's a lesson for another day!!

As long as you read carefully, you should be ok.

If you're in Dublin and can knock into my offices (city centre) or house (North County Dublin) I'll do that bit for you. Once you've done that it's plain sailing. It's just a bit weird if you're not used to a command line.

Hmm, just booted up the old xp pro and unless I'm blind (possibility!) I don't have it.

I'd offer the same for any one near Dundalk, also maybe RDP, VNC, Teamviewer etc could be used handily enough. (although with the exception of teamviewer/logmein it's probably harder to configure than flashing clockwork!!)

There aren't any md5 tools in windows by default, so you've installed something that you forgot about. It's not a pre-requisite to the install. It's just wise. :)

How does this compare with the Samsung Wave?? Ordered the Wave from CPW but its looking like its out of stock and they wont be getting them back in.

I know someone heading to Belfast on Monday so I'm considering getting this instead. Is it easy to unlock, debrand it, update it etc???

I'm having some problem with MMS. I've used the settings posted on boards, and can't see anything obviously wrong. I'm using Paul's MoDaCo r4 rom.
Same problem on 2 phones, one on 3, other on O2.
    The messages are:

When I receive an MMS, the message says 'download of message was unsuccessful'.

When I try and attach a picture to send a message myself I get the following: The application Picture Folder (process com.alensw.PicFolder) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

Would anybody know waht the issue might be or know a workaround?

    Thanks

    Ambrose

I dont really know much about the wave, dont they have some sort of propitiatory os? and with that you'd have no app store, which would be a major negative for me.

Argos in the UK are selling them cheap at the moment, less than £100 including the mandatory credit.

Free to unlock (see original post for details)

Easy to modify (debrand and upgrade, see op for instructions, but at this stage the roms are out dated)

Speak of which, What rom is the best one to go for at the moment, im currently running Fibble...something version 3 ( i think). Im pretty certain i have the one with the dodgey, battery eating dialer. so i think im well over due an ol upgrade!

I can see an exodus from that thread in BA over here. All the reviews seem to be pretty positove for the Blade. I think I'm going to ask my sister in the UK to pick one up for me.

If you are like me and not sure what your doinf, there is a good chance but if you pc savy, you should have no problem.

Currently trying to fix a bricked blade :(

    Following the instructions http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blade-blade-modaco-com/328469/rom-eclair-stock-with-clockwork-2-5-1-8-mod-0-1-2011-01-05-oled-tft/
but still no luck, so if anyone knows what to do, please let me know.

How far have you gotten and what are the symptoms?

You wouldn't have "bricked" it but you may need a separate card reader or another phone to recopy a good version of the image/folder and then restart your blade.

edit: I've played around with this method before doing/testing different things and I would imagine you are stuck on the green android logo now.

The instructions in the thread you linked say power and volume up once you have the files extracted to /image on your sd card. I think you are probably in fastboot and the process didn't start correctly.

If you are pretty sure that you have done the other steps correctly (downloaded correctly, preferably did the checksum, and extracted the .zip you downloaded in a folder named image on your sd card not image/image as some extraction tools will do!!) remove your battery and the phone from the usb if it's still connected. Replace your battery and hold menu and volume up while you turn the phone on and the process should start correctly and reboot.

edit again: use this tool to do a check sum on the downloaded zip and make sure the numbers match that in the OP (Thx Chet!!)

Nope, still on the green android. gonna give up cause I'm at a total loss at this stage, I've tried everything to no avail.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 231 ✭✭MC_G

I think the problem is either a corrupt download (use the md5 in my edited post above),

or that you extracted the file inside image and it created a second folder named image inside that ( i edited that above earlier too but you may have missed it because you posted at the same time i was editing).

Can you check in another phone or card reader if that's the case?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 584 ✭✭✭slimboyfat

I can still access the clockworkmod and check the card from there, is that any good?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 231 ✭✭MC_G

Doh, if you still have clockwork and can get into it your phone is nowhere near bricked!!

Do you really even want the ROM you've downloaded, you could download just a different ROM mount the sd in clockwork drop the file from your pc and install from .zip in clockwork.

You can mount sd in clockwork and check the folders in your computer or place new rom .zips in there easy peasy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 584 ✭✭✭slimboyfat

Just goes to show you how much I know what I am doing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 231 ✭✭MC_G

Not a problem, we all started to learn these things somewhere.

Do you have clockwork up and your phone connected to your pc?

If that is the rom you want check the image folder and if there's a second image folder there you need to copy the files from that and put them in the other image folder

for example e:image/image/lots of files here needs to be

    e:/image/lots of files.

Then you exit clockwork and remove the battery to completely power off.

Hold Menu, Volume Up, and Power and the process in the youtube video should start. When the phone reboots you'll have a nice clean 2.1 but will have to configure your own APN settings for Internet/MMS and Possibly voicemail because the rom is from T-Mobile Hungary.

    Glad I could help, enjoy!!

Next time all you need to do is download a rom from any of the threads, place it on your sd and boot into clockwork and select install from .zip choose .zip and away you go (maybe wipes etc etc) but a lot simpler process!
