1 month left in 2010...it wasnt a great year for metal releases (compared to last year anyway) and some of the albums I was looking forward to turned out to be duds (Arsis, Nachtmystium). Anyway, heres my top 10:
    1. DEP- Option Paralysis
    2. Clinging to the Trees Of A Forest Fire- Songs Of Ill Hope and Desperation
    3. Daughters- S/T
    4. Harvey Milk- A Small Turn Of Human Kindness
    5. Coliseum- House With A Curse
    6. Torche- Songs For Singles
    7. El Bastardo- Versus You (available for free download here: http://elbastardo.bandcamp.com/album/versus-you )
    8. Early Graves- Goner
    9. Child Abuse- Cut And Run
    10. Cloudkicker- Beacons (available for free download here: http://cloudkicker.bandcamp.com/album/beacons )

as for next year I'm looking forward to new Down, Primordial and Altar Of Plagues but I'm DYING to hear the new Pig Destoyer

I think it was a great year for metal releases.

Anathema, Ihshan, Borknagar, Agalloch and Enslaved have all released stellar albums this year.

    1. Wasn't that impressed.
    3. Have heard very good things about it. Will try to pick it up.
    4. It's very average by their standards.
    6. It's very short and not that good and the packaging is horrible.

I'll possibly pick up Ihsahn, i've been saying that since January though.
    Borknagar is very, very average.
I'd really like to pikc up the new Agalloch.
I've heard very mixed reports about Enslaved. I own everything else by them but Vertebrae was terribly dull.

Alcest, The Besnard Lakes, The Butterfly Explosion, Ghost, High on Fire, Jonsi, Liars, Mondo Cane, Mogwai live album and The Ocean (with another on the way).

There wasn't too many albums I got this year. My best for this year was Misery Index - Heirs to Thievery though. Other ones I listened to that I liked were:
    Sigh - Scenes From Hell
    Rotting Christ - Aealo
The Rotted - Anarchogram (technically an EP, but I'm just filling space I guess.)
Beneath the Massacre - Maree Noire (same as The Rotted)

There was a few I meant to give a listen to, like Hypomanic by Leng Tch'e and Misled by Certainty by Cephalic Carnage, just never got around to it.

And for stuff still to come out, I might give a listen to Road to the Octagon by Impaled Nazarene.

Didn't get much this year, of what I did, my favourite would be 7th Symphony by Apocalytica, great album imo.

Pain of Salvation and God is an Astronaut had good releases too.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Apocalyptica's 7th Symphony is unreal even though they've kind of moved away from cello's and are using guitars instead. End of Me featuring Gavin Rossdale on vocals is a very catchy tune.

Ihsahn's After is well worth picking up. Check out Frozen Lakes on Mars, that's an excellent song. Loads of saxophone on this too which makes it interesting but works well!

If you're into Industrial/Neue Deutsche Harte, check out Eisbrecher's Eiszeit. Excellent stuff!

Whoops I appear to have missed out on new releases by Apocalyptica and Cloudkicker. I must sort that out sharpish!

There were really only two albums that stood out for me this year Fear Factory's Mechanize and The Birthday Massacre's Pins & Needles.

I thought it was a good year for albums but did get a lot of older stuff.
    Faves would be.

    Negura Bunget - Virstele Pamintului
    Burzum - Belus
    Ihsahn- After
    Therion - Sitra Ahra
Anathema- Were Here Because Were Here
    Sigh - Scenes From Hell
Volbeat - Beyond Hell/ Above Heaven

Have to pick up Borknagar, Lordi and Agalloch yet, the jury is still out on Enslaved but then I really liked Vertebrae

Got to agree with Science Nerd, nothing this year really hit me as hard as alot of the albums from the previous three years. But there were some damn fine releases nonetheless.

Periphery - S/T One of those albums where the great parts just about make up for the bad parts.
Alcest - Ecailles De Lune - Probably the best album of the year, I've overlistened to it by this stage though. :P
Barren Earth - Curse of The Red River
    Cloudkicker - Beacons
Circa Survive - Blue Sky Noise
Veil of Maya - [id] (Was pretty good I guess)
The Contortionist - Exoplanet (Nothing on Apparition though)
    Tesseract - Concealing Fate EP
Tony Danze Tapdance Extravaganza - Danza III
Ihsan - After (I'd recommend The Adversary moreso)

Not a spectacular year, still alot of albums I haven't listened to yet though.

Great to see No. 7 listed there - It's a very strong release by Rosetta & one of my favourite albums this year. Great band but wish they'd tour more often!

    Other notable 2010 releases:
    Ufomammut: Eve
    Twlight: Monument to Time End

Ive quite enjoyed this year, with these being the highlights:

James LaBrie - Static Impulse (seriously amazing album).
Black Country Communion - Black Country Communion (finally a supergroup that pays off).
    Tesseract - Concealing Fate EP.
Slash - Live in Manchester (Wasn't a fan of the self titled studio album, but the live album is whopper).
    Sevendust - Cold Day Memory
    Deftones - Diamond Eyes

I haven't actually bought a huge amount of albums this year, maybe about ten tops. My faves out of what I did get are Nightmare by Avenged Sevenfold and ABIII by Alter Bridge. I prefer the second one but I haven't listened to Nightmare as much as I would like. :)

I bought feck all brand new 2010 albums this year too. Off the top of my head I can only think of about four or five at the most. The best of those has definitely been Mael Mórdha's Manannán. Cracker of an album. The new Nevermore album was okay too I suppose. That's about it, jaysus

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,159 ✭✭✭rednik

Scorpions - Sting in the tail.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,072 ✭✭✭PeterIanStaker

I bought hardly any new albums this year apart from Maiden & Mael Mordha (which was supposed to be released the november before)
