what exactly are UL thinking? the traffic is getting out of order completely. today theyve shut the main entrance due to high winds and the back gate is locked. stuck in work now for ages. are they ever going to sort it?

The main gate is locked due to a tree falling. An email was sent to staff (not students) warning about this.

The back gate is always closed- this is because to open it would make the road a "through road" and as such require a change in planning permission for the bridge by thomond. The powers that be are also worried that it would be used as a short cut for people for people commuting between the conlara side and limerick city and as such make campus traffic worse

Students received the e-mail at 17:25, a bit too late! The traffic has gotten worse here lately, the extreme weather conditions have just added to the problem.

thing is, im staff too, but thats still useless to me. finishing work at 5.30 and not getting out till 7? its sheer craziness. staff should be allowed to use that back road if they work near the kemmy.

Why? It's been like that for years, surely you'd be aware of the planning situation? If that road is opened then Corbally will become the mother of all bottlenecks. Some thought has to go into it first before anything happens.

Why should staff get special treatment? who would patrol the border? Specialist border guards with German Shepherds to check ID to insure that they are staff from the business area and god forbid not the staff in tracksuits from the Arena or students!

Why do people with cars give out about other people with cars using them! Wait your turn! Turn on you radio to Lyric and be nice to other road users. Lifes too short :D

I think the OP is referring to the road that goes from the crossroads on the way to the boathouse that brings you out at the bus stop past college court, near groody roundabout and not the one at cappaghvilla that brings you to the Lame Duck. The gate there is sometimes open, and to be honest it would have made a lot of sense to open it and let traffic out ot UL yesterday evening.

it was open yesterday, the problem was getting out at groody no one on point duty and everyone trying to turn right.

imo it should be open every evening it would mean 3 roads off campus instead of two.

regardless, the whole traffic plan for leaving ul needs a complete rework.

That road isn't owned by UL, it belongs to ESB.

is it not owned by the council? either way could they not strike a deal where its open in the evenings to "elliviate congestion"? thereby making everones lives easier?

It wont alleviate the traffic problem. All that will happen is that it will move the problem a little further away. Those who use that road would find it extremely difficult to cross into traffic heading towards Groody roundabout. And even if they could get out a little ahead of the traffic coming from the main gates at UL, all that would happen then is that UL would become backed up and conjested again....

Even if they did, the road is exclusively one way, it's so narrow.
