    What does it entail exactly?

I have a very keen interest in astrophysics, molecular biology and microbiology but cant make up my mind on which to do.

How do you go about specialising in this course?

Damn there is already a thread on it. Mod delete this.

Just go for astrophysics; we're awesome.

In general science, you can choose a number of 'areas'(They use some other word). I think it's either two or three.
For example, one might choose astrophysics and ACM(Applied and Computational Maths) or ACM and neuroscience.

With a general science degree you can attend all the lectures that you would in any denominated degree for the first two years at least, I think.

If I'm wrong on anything, correct me. :D

Currently there are two ways to do science at UCD. You can do omnibus which is where you don't specify which subjects you want to specialise in at the beginning or denominated entry which is when you do.

Some courses like zoology, microbiology and genetics can only be entered through the omnibus system. Points for denominated entry are higher than the omnibus route such as neuroscience which was just over 500 points. People chose denominated because they are sure that they want to study that area and chosing it from the beginning will guarantee them their place when everyone has to specialise later on.

I heard that from next year on or it could be the year after that from then on everyone wanting to do science in UCD will start off together in the omnibus and there will be no denominated entry anymore.

I'm in science stage one in UCD at the moment and I love it.

Just to say, there is a fantastic amazing incredible thread located in this forum where all information about science in ucd can be asked or found.

(would mods be happy to merge this thread with the fantasitc 'UCD SCIENCE' thread)
