Its been a while and its time to get the act together. This was my goal at the start of this log in november:
    Hello Comrades.
With DCM complete and a wedding this Feb, I need to keep a log to help maintain (and improve) fitness, get over an injury (nerve tension in right hamstring) and have a stab at a shorter race in January.

I'm also doing the marathontalk push up challenge. Goal is to get to 3x100

How have I done: Nov - February:
    - Got over injury
    - 36:55 10km in Ballycarney
    - Got up to 3x40 pushups

12th Feb - Now (not in order of acheivements)
    - Handfull of runs (about 10 easy runs)
    - A surprising 30.35 for a 5m race on Paddy's day.
    - Chest infection
    - Married
    - 3 week Honeymoon (heres one of 3 runs)
    - Added about 10lbs in weight
    - Struggled to do 3x5 pushups last night

Goal- Long term is DCM. 2:55 is the goal for now. I've a lot to do to get back to where I was but shouldn't take that long hopefully. I'm going to be patient this time.
    - I'd like to get a couple short (5m/10km) races in from now until around July.
    - I'd love one or two mountain races just to feel some pain see what its like.

    Wed 31st March
    2.8m slow.
This was the first run since chest infection. Still clearing out the chest but delighted to get that done. Really nice day to get back into things.

Short term goal is the sportsworld 5m on the 15th May.

good to have you back Misty, a different man I'm sure now that your honest!

I tried to sign up for the Galway 5K series in May but couldn't get in, so may target the Sportsworld 5ml as my first race back after the marathon, so maybe I'll see you there.

Ha ha yeah nothing has changed Speedy. Just more determined to get running again.......everyone is running from something. Hope she doesn't read that, just a joke.

Thats a pity about the 5k series I believe its great. Exciting times coming up Speedy, good luck with the taper.

Congratulations Misty! Love that Garmin tracklog! Those hills will pale in insignificance once you hit the IMRA hills, but you won't have to worry too much about the heat. The IMRA Plod run in July is a super hill run, and the terrain is not too taxing, so a great one for those chasing marathons later in the year.

good stuff misty, good to be back id say....plenty time to get things going for DCM, will be nice training for it again this summer knowing you will achieve your goal.

take it handy and good luck with the running

Loving the new Radiohead album, been listening to it non stop really. Morning Mr. Magpie is my current favourite and it was my least favourite when I first listened to the album. That's Radiohead for ya. Some of the ballads are awesome on it aswell - codex etc. Anyway I'm a self confessed fanatic so fairly biased.

Delighted for you on the ol' wedding front, might see a few mini floyds running around soon ;)

    Thurs 31st March
I wasn't feeling the best. Didn't run, still coughing up crap but getting there.

    Fri 1st April
5m @ 7.24m/mStarted with an 8.04m/m and picked it up a bit. Felt way harder than it should have but why would it feel easy at this stage.

    Sat 2nd April
    10m easy.
Lack of energy or something. Not into it but a great day for it. 5m in and I was going up a bit of a hill. No, turned around. Glad to get 10 in.

    Sun 3rd April
The wee hills I avoided yesterday, I did today. 7m Total. Parked the car in Newcastle (near Celbridge) and jogged up the hills near there. It was ok but I had to stop a good few times to belch. Dinner. Forgot to stop the watch but average pace was prob 7.45m/m Link

Feel like a day off running tomorrow would be better than doing a few miles. Can't wait to get stuck in properly in a couple of weeks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,137 ✭✭✭seanynova

Hey Sean cheers. How are you getting on, how is the injury?

i could write a book on it at this stage....3months now!

    GP - all clear
2x physio - all clear (no avulsion or obvious damage)
hip specialist - all clear(pelvis etc is aligned)
    MRI - all clear

doing a bit of aqua running without any side effects last few weeks, but cant run/cycle or pain and tightness comes back

drop of holy water next id say!

not too worried anymore about it, kind of accepted it but its a pity as i prob wont do DCM this year

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,905 ✭✭✭misty floyd

Thats a bummer Sean. Can you run at all on it?
Plenty of marathons to pick from next year and its a busy year for you anyway.

    Mon 4th Apr
    Rest day

    Tues 5th Apr
    2m warm up
    8 x 400m with 100 jog recovery. 78/86/86/86/86/86/82/84 (I think).
    2m cool down
Feck all reps and slow but that will improve. Just wanted to take it handy and not over do it first session back. No fear of that.

Howdy, ah I'll be just back from the states that day. Great idea to work with someone for a short one like that. Pity. Good luck with it anyway.

Rest day although most of the day was spent on my feet.

    Sun 10th Apr

    Mon 11th Apr
    4m easy. zzzzzzzzzz

    Tues 12th Apr
Skiping club session tonight so I could get to see the Utd/Chelsea match so I decided to do a 6x1m interval session on 'the triangle' as I call it.....a handy loop just around the corner from my house. Its a pity you can't see what the current interval pace is when using the interval function but I would run this at what I thought 10km effort would be like. Link.

Intervals with 3.30 mins slow jog:
6.01 ok, a few glances at the watch to see how long was left
5.55 meh, thoughts of doing 3 intervals enter the head
6.06 can't wait to finish these, I'm not enjoying it, I'll do one more
6.16 about 20 glances at the watch. C'mon!!

I reckoned 2 more efforts no matter what the pace would be better than calling it a day.
6.25 & 6.15 I eyeballed the last two a bit. Happy to be done, 3.30 is a bit long for recovery but thats taken from Greg mcmillans 10km workouts that shels posted.
1m warm up/cool down. 10.26m total. I'll do this session again in a few weeks to check progress.

    Wed 13th Apr
    5m @ 7.25m/m

    Thurs 14th Apr
    Day off.

    Fri 15th Apr
    5.5m ~ 7.35m/m

    Sat 16th Apr
I've cut some calories trying to loose weight impatiently. Last couple of runs were on empty. Feeling a bit run down and sh!t. Because of that and because I wasn't arsed, I took today off.

    Sun 17th Apr
First ever mountain run plod today. Went with a clubmate to powerscourt and I've no idea of the names of the areas we went. I knew it would be tough but not that hard and major respect to anyone that runs on mountains. I had to walk a couple of times, hands on knees, I thought my heart was going to burst. Really enjoyed the downhills, it was a great buzz. Link. First time wearing the Inovate Mudroc, I thought they were great.

32.2 miles for the week. Thats a bit crap but I got 2 hard sessions in and I suppose today while not long was time on the feet 83minutes.

    Mon 18th Apr
4.5m recovery. Legs sore from Sundays mountain plod

    Tues 19th Apr
Forced recovery. DOMS. Walking like I did a marathon, very sore.

    Wed 20th Apr
    5m easy

    Thurs 21st Apr
    4 x 1m with 3.30min recovery. 6.5m total.
    5.50/5.42/5.54/5.48
Did this with a mate. He bailed after 3 and we organised a long run on Sat so with that and a mountain run on Sunday I thought it best to be somewhat fresh for the weekend so dropped the last 2 reps. This was hard work all the same.
I'm actually really happy with that as I couldn't have done that last week. Cut short but feel some progress.

    Fri 22nd Apr
4m recovery after a hard day of work.

    Sat 23rd Apr
    12.6m @ 7.29m/m. Enjoyed that.

    Sun 24th Apr
More hills but easier this time. Met some friends from the club and went to Glendalough / turlough hill / Kevins? walk (I think). Link.
12m total ~ 2000 feet. Bonked for last 2 miles, even though it was down hill, I was pretty empty. This was a lot more enjoyable than last weeks climbing, I really enjoyed it and good craic too.

    45.6m for the week.

    Mon 25th Apr
    Rest day.

    Tues 26th Apr
10x400's on grass with 70s recovery.
These were around 76 - 78. A session to forget, felt sh1t, heavy legs, no speed in me at all and struggled. To top it off I had onions repeat on me the whole way through, even now, poxy things.
Might get back on the horse and do these again on Saturday. Only way to get good at something is to keep doing them I suppose.
    ~5m total

    Wed 27th Apr
    8.3m easy (7.50m/m).
    Lords lane/Ardclough/canal/Lords lane
Great day for it. Listened to a disappointing Marathon talk episode, still made the time go by quickly.
