Your using a laptop, so I assume you're using wireless. If so, are you using the default wireless password? If so, someone's probably downloading porn with your internet, as this default password is VERY VERY VERY easy to get on the internet.

Please increase your security using the instructions on http://support.eircom.net.

eircoms usuage meter is usualy twice as much as the one i have running in the sidebar. Id complain but ive never come close to goin over the limit anyway. Their speedtest also gives higher readings then any other speedtest...

So does that mean I havent gone over my limit and the figures are wrong ..?

what do you use the internet for mainly? And how many hours a day is it on? Is it just the laptop your using to connect or do you have a desktop/phone with wifi. Youtube videos are countd as download, even though they are not saved to the computer, its stil a lot of information coming down the line. Playing online games, streaming movies, opening flash intensive websites, viewing large documents all contribute to your download usage. If you are not that active on the net then the only other possibilities are they have you figures wrong, or someone is stealing your wifi. Id say ring them and see what light they can shed on the situation, like if they can tel you the times the net was accessed.

EVERYTHING you do online either uploads or downloads (or both) data which counts towards your limit. looking at web pages, watching youtube, checking your email, listening to online radio.

just because you don't have a downloaded copy of something on your PC, it doesn't mean it's not downloading.

download the trial of DU Meter and watch it's graphs that show what you are downloading and uploading in real time as you're doing various things online and you'll see what effect each thing you do online has on your connection.
