Does anyone actually use it? IRC is a bit niche this days

For those of us who don't have a clue what it is (ie me), eh wha?

Is it like DCU's redbrick or something?

IRC is still the only reliable way to get 100's of people in to a realtime textchat environment! It is old tech, but still very useful! I have been in it an odd time up until now as I use other channels on freenode.

Compsocs (excluding ours, inc. DCU redbrick) have run their own irc network, don't know if it's still active. We never had resources to run our own until recently, but already had regd one on freenode.
