Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If you click on boards.ie in the top left corner or my forums, it'll bring you to the homepage or the list of your forums. To the right of my threads there's an arrow facing down, scroll over that and on the list you'll see thanks, just click on that. The post is number 2 at the moment. It's well worth looking at every day, saves having to go through crap posts to see a couple of funny ones.

I don't know the make or model. Nothing particularly extravagant though.
    It was a cable style.

Attention has been grabbed...why not cause a scene with the momentum gathering.
Tweet this under #findmybike or something.

Get your facebook friends to post it to their wall.
Maybe even set up a facebook page.
If it takes off, some media outlets might take up on it since it's viral, and everyone love that kind of stuff.
Thejournal.ie like to pick up on trending social media stories.

All a bit far fetched, I know, but who knows.
Could be an experiment to see if social media can find a stolen bike.

Did you speak to the guy standing next to him when he took it. I'm surprised he was so casually able to take it without alerting suspicion...but I guess that's why I'm not a thief

I've had two bicycles stolen from Harrington street around the corner, might even have been the same guy. Cops wont do anything to him, some form of ritual humiliation would be suitable punishment

Stick it on Facebook, maybe somebody can tag the culprit.

I'm surprised that teh FBI haven't their most wanted on Facebook already!

Y'know what, if we can get the king of twitter, Lance, to retweet this, I think that's almost as good as getting the bike back :pac:

Cable locks are useless, they can be cut through in about 2 seconds.

D-Locks are really the only serious lock, with cable a good option for securing the front wheel.

This morning on my commute to work I saw about 5 bikes chained to a railing in front of one of the flats on Kevin St. I didn't have time to stop but it might be worth checking around there. It was on the side facing Aungier St DIT along the laneway.

    Oh bicycle robber,
    You came on a Friday,
Sold the bike on the Tuesday,
Got spoken to the Gards on the Wednesday,
Got your head ki**ed in on the Thursday,
But you stole another bike again the next Friday...

4000+ views on the thread. Nearly 100 twitter mentions.
Why not have a stab at mailing the popular radio stations.
Has the potential to be something popular they'd like to jump onto and give a quick mention or one might even take up the cause. Has pics a Dublin thief, it's local, it's "social media" related.

"Can social media find my bike" etc...

    Worth a stab...

Darcy might pick it up (being a cyclist etc) best to shove the point that it already has momentum rather than his show being plagued with other 'my bike has been nicked' emails.
I'll say one thing, I'd hate to be commuting on a Bianchi right now:D

Any chance of posting up a serial number or something that could identify it from other bikes? a scratch, the group set, tear on the saddle etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,317 ✭✭✭✭Raam

I don't want to post the serial number online.
Distinguishing features: pink tyres, a black ripped Selle San Marco saddle,
105 shifters with one of the caps missing.
    Dent on the downtube

Good luck with recovering your bike. My cousin lost his winter hack 2 weeks ago near Malahide outside a cafe not locked so watch out. seems that some thieves are looking out for weekend groups .

A lad in work had his nicked from the Office Carpark couple of weeks ago, it was a nice bike as well, they picked the fella up on the CCTV and hes been caught, he admitted to 26 other bike thefts.

Doesnt look like much chance of him getting his bike back though.

Sorry to hear 'bout the bike. Hope you get the chap. This link may have been posted before, but for other people who ahve had their bikes stolen, here's the link to the Flickr page where the Garda list the bikes and stuff they've recovered.

Rotten luck and I sincerely hope the bike is recovered and the srcoat is caught. Any chance the bike was targetted? It seems a bit mad that he would walk brazenly into what looks like a relatively private spot and spend 20 mins (?) breaking the lock to take the bike, as well as having the presence of mind to bring a hi-vis vest with him.

On a lighter note, maybe it's time for the Guards to take this sort of thing more seriously - they should form a "helmet squad" modelled on LAPD's "hat squad" who tended towards the robust when dealing with crime......

This morning I have learned that this chap may be doing rounds of office car parks in the city, pulling the same stunt. Please advise your respective security departments/cyclist colleagues about this chap.

My source informs me that the very same guy (source has a picture which is not available to me) took bicycles from their place of work.

The guy may be trying to pass himself off as someone who works in the building, hence the high vis vest.

It is quite distinctive and probably worth looking out for - easier to spot someone wearing that (and the jacket) than trying to compare his face to the CCTV image. Unless they're his bike thieving clothes and he wears something else in the cold weather.

Could it be the Wiggle guy at the bottom? - perhaps they are looking to start a 2nd hand business:D:

It's great you got a picture of him. It's unfortunate that the resolution and quality is a bit low. When you zoom in on the face, there is just enough there to recognize the man though.

I cropped the man out of your original pic and tried unsuccessfully to sharpen it. Photoshop might have a better upscaler with a better interpolation method than I have with gimp. So hopefully someone can work their CSI magic.

It's not often enough that buggers like him get caught but I'd say theres a really good chance here. Hope he gets bloody knicked!!
