Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Different spec worth extra cost in this case?

Hi. Looking at getting into cycling and have been trying to decide between these two models,

    Giant 4 2010

    Giant 3 2010

I have no idea if the difference in components warrants an extra €150. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In general, the extra money is usually "worth it" in absolute terms, but a better question is "is it worth it to you"? So far as I know, they're both the exact same frame, but the Defy 3 has a carbon fork as opposed to steel, which should be lighter and reduce road buzz a bit. And that is always worth it, I think :D

Hi Coronal, thanks for replying. It says the Defy 3 has a Advanced-Grade Composite Fork, that means Carbon then?

    Got it in one! :)

Have you experience with either bike? Picking a first road bike is a tough one but it seems the Defy range is liked by most.

I'm afraid not. I test rode one very briefly once, and it seemed pretty nice. You'll only really know if it suits when you get up on it. Is there any particular reason you're looking at Giant, rather than Specialized or Trek or Cube? They'll both feel more or less the same to ride, but the Defy 3 might be that bit more comfy over a few hours.

No particular reason. It's just that I live in Waterford and bike shops seem pretty pricey and I found that site that I linked has discounted last years Giants significantly.

Ah right, I gets ya. Have a look at the Cube range on chainreaction. They look great in the flesh and they're usually a pretty decent spec for the money. I'm not sure if they come down to the Defy 3/4 price range, though.
